Meet Jeff Mitchell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Mitchell.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Record crates to real estate! I moved to Dallas 28 years ago from Oklahoma City. At the time, the license plates in Oklahoma said, “Oklahoma is OK”, just OK! That said, I had to move to the big city of Dallas.  As soon as I arrived, I began getting deeply entrenched in the music scene.

I started working the doors at several popular Dallas clubs and bars.  During my time working at clubs like 2826 and Fish Dance, I started really falling in love with dance music culture in Dallas. Over the years, that lead to throwing lots of crazy underground rave parties, club events and more. Eventually, event promoting lead to DJing, producing house music records, and running a dance music record label and more parties of course!

Over the years, I have always held on to my passion for music and events, even while holding down my various careers in sales. Fast forward to present day, I have been a residential Real Estate Agent for the past 14 years and currently Managing Partner of Modern Living Real Estate. I continue to DJ and throw music events in Dallas. One of the more popular events I am known for is Decks in The Park, which is Dallas’s largest outdoor, free electronic music event held at Klyde Warren Park. Decks in the Park was designed to highlight local artist and connect the community through music.

We started back when the park was making its debut 5 years ago. When we launched, we had around 1200 people in attendance. Decks in the Park is now in its 5th year and regularly draws near 7000+ per event! Outside of my music and real estate career, I’m passionate about serving at risk kids in our community, through the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) program. For the past 7 or so years, I have mentored and served on various Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) boards and committees. Currently, I chair the events committee for the Dallas County Regional Board of Directors for BBBS. Last but certainly not least, I’m extremely fortunate enough to have 2 loving, beautiful girls by my side, my partner Katie and my daughter Zuri. They keep me grounded, inspired and are always very supportive of my musical endeavors.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is music and events. From DJing to throwing music events, I have always loved having a small part in effecting and connecting people through music. It breaks down barriers, moves you, unites, and inspires.  I love being a part of this and the joy it brings to all!

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Don’t give up! Believe you’re worthy, persevere and work hard. Focus on solutions, visualize your success. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and use your network! I firmly believe that anything you need is just 1 degree of separation away.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Decks in The Park Oct 31st at Klyde Warren Park is the next event.
