Micaela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Howdy! My name is Micaela “Mickey” Elizondo and I’m excited to share with you the story of my Texas-inspired gift box company, Cool Beans Box. With the support of my husband, Noe, and daughter, Calista, I took the leap into business ownership and founded Cool Beans Box in the summer of 2016. We’re based in Las Colinas.
I started my shop with the goal of celebrating Texas, its talented makers: artisans, small business owners with an extra focus on women-owned shops. And the way I set out to do this was by creating Cool Beans Boxes filled with hand-crafted, artisan-made goods to highlight and showcase the awesome work of the makers. Because Texas Maker Rock!
COOL BEANS is an Expression of Approval or Delight. My wish is that when you open your box, you feel compelled to say “COOL BEANS” every time!
Has it been a smooth road?
Business ownership provides plenty of opportunities to stretch your learning and development muscles. From business operations to marketing and much more, you are always being challenged to lead and drive innovation and change in your business day to day. My advice would be to setup SMART goals along with objectives, stay the course and along the way partner with somebody who will hold you accountable for what you want to achieve. Share your vision and mission with others, believe that you can do it, and keep moving forward.

Since shipping the first Cool Beans Boxes in September of 2016, I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with some very talented makers from across The Great State of Texas. I work hard to thoughtfully source a wide-array of gourmet foods, lovely homewares, custom apparel, artisan hand-crafted personal care products and more and I’m continually building our partnership list.
Cool Beans Box offers an array of options to satisfy your gifting needs. From Build Your Own Box, Club, and Pre-Designed, you have a choice when it comes to gifts for an anniversary, birthday, graduation, housewarming, wedding and so many other special occasions.
Choosing to Build Your Own Cool Beans Box is a fun and easy way to choose what you want in your gift box for yourself, friends, and family. All you need to do is select 4 items that you’d like to go into the box.
Choosing from the Club offerings is a great way to give a gift that keeps on giving! With Club, you have the option to purchase One Month, 3-Months, or 6-Months. The current Club options include the Texas Coffee Club, Texas Gourmet Club, and Texas Spa Club. Orders need to be submitted by the 20th of the month to receive that month’s box. Boxes are shipped between the 22nd – 24th of each month. The Club boxes do not auto-renew.
With the Pre-Designed Cool Beans Boxes, you have over six gift boxes to choose from that we’ve created for your gifting pleasure. And we are always coming up with new gift box creations.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
The top gift box companies in the United States are lead by very capable women who have paved the way for others to be successful in the industry. I feel fortunate to be able to learn and forge new and innovative ways to gift design.
