Meet Trailblazer Judith Kehoe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Judith Kehoe.

Judith, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi! I am 36 years old and I have been a hairstylist for over 17 years. I grew up in Oak Cliff with both my parents and 3 brothers. I was introduced to the beauty industry at the age of 5 years old by my mother who was a hairstylist. We didn’t have very many toys growing up. But I had dozens of mannequin heads, my mother would bring home from beauty school. My passion for hair and beauty only grew as I got older. I watched my mother grow and become a successful salon owner despite all her struggles, sacrifices and setbacks. It was only natural for me to follow the same dreams. I have had my own share of struggles sacrifices and setbacks. But today, I am a proud co-owner of Modern Muse Hair & Color Studio, a new salon my husband and I opened this summer.

Has it been a smooth road?
There has been a range of struggles for me. I especially remember the struggles early in my career when I was building my clientele. I have always focused on education to strengthen me in my career. This has helped me bring many smiles to my client’s faces. But you can’t always make everyone happy. Which can be very hurtful and discouraging if you allow it to. In my early years, I lost a lot of sleep over this. Now, I am grateful to have had those experiences. It has allowed me to see and value the trust my clients have in me with taking a part of them and creating something beautiful.

I have experienced insecurities, disrespect, discrimination, jealousy and more. But I never lost sight of my dreams because I had a lot of passion for hair and a gem, my mother. She understood all my struggles. My advice to all women who are starting on their path to success is: When you are pursuing your dreams, understand that you will experience your own set of struggles. Staying focused and inspired can carry you through it. Don’t second guess yourself or allow anyone to derail you. Find your gem. Ones who support and encourage you. It will result in a much greater sense of accomplishment.

Modern Muse Hair & Color Studio is a new hair salon located in the heart of Colleyville, TX. I co-founded the salon with my husband Justin. We pride ourselves in creating beautiful and modern hair services while maintaining the health and integrity of the hair. We strongly believe that consistency, communication, and ongoing advanced education are key factors in achieving our guests’ goals and expectations. My specialties are color, color correction, highlights and specialty colors such as color melts and balayage. I am also known for my long layered haircut, signature blowouts, and bouncy curls.

Which women have inspired you in your life?
My mother Lucy is the main source of my inspiration. She is the most beautiful woman I know inside and out. Although she has achieved great accomplishments she has also endured a lot of heartaches and personal pain. But despite it all, she still stands strong.

My mother-in-law Shirley is an incredible woman. As a single mother, she started working at a young age and never stopped. She is a very intelligent and beautiful woman with a big heart.
