Today we’d like to introduce you to Catalina Querida and Joe Manco.
Catalina and Joe, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Little Spark Films has been chugging along since 2013. We started making music videos for our band, Aristoscat. Joe learned video production at The Academy in Irving, and I have a background in music and theatre. We discovered we liked making music videos and after a few of our own, spaghetti western band, The Monco Poncho hired us to make their first music video, “Manos Pariva.”
We’ve since completed several music videos for various artists including Manifestiv, The Shane Bell Band, Kache Monet, The Empire Cats, and Secret of Boris. Each video is its own style to match the music. Our first 48 HR Film Race introduced narrative storytelling to our repertoire, and we’ve been building on our short films.
This year, we’re making a short film written by the internationally bestselling author, Paul Kane. Currently, we make monthly promotional videos for Deadly Sins Burlesque and Sideshow. Joe makes weekly fliers for The Corpsepaint Show and is updating brandings and websites for various local businesses.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We’ve definitely had hiccups, but we take them as learning experiences. We’ve learned to be forward and get as many details as possible for each project. We like to have several meetings over the course of the project as well, so we’re on the same page as the client.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Little Spark Films – what should we know?
Little Spark Films provides videography, photography, and graphic design services. We’re known for music videos and promotional material, like small social media videos, fliers, and brandings.
Last year, we won Scream Queen and Most Troma-tic at Merry Scary Christmas 48 Hr. Film race and a contract to have our short, “Anti-Christmas Carol,” featured on Troma Now. Troma is the longest running independent movie studio in North America and has started the careers of many successful filmmakers and actors.
We were also contacted by the international best-selling author, Paul Kane, to take on his short, “The Torturer,” and have local favorite, Paul T. Taylor in the lead role. We pride ourselves in our experience in performing arts and music as it’s helped the way we view projects. We’re resourceful and creative and enjoy artistically unusual or challenging ideas.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Our core team is Bart De Boisblanc, Joe Miglio, Manifestiv, and Dani and Jay Gavit Bart is our grip and electric aka Mad Scientist, he’s been around since the first experiments. Joe, Mig, is our producer and IT wizard.
Manifestiv is a music duo from all over. They are always happy to help create an atmosphere for projects. Dani and Jay support every venture we’ve tried. They also keep us creating by having us make their fliers, promotional material, and website.
