Today we’d like to introduce you to Adina Collins.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey to A.T. Collins Enterprises LLC really began in 2014, when I started helping friends and family in south Louisiana with their individual tax returns. They were so amazed that I had a passion for assisting them in exploring every legal avenue to save them money prior to filing their federal and state tax returns.
As a former state auditor, I loved asking lots of questions, completing research and teaching others tax information that I acquired. It was so fulfilling to develop strategic tax plans that family and friends could take personal responsibility in legally reducing their tax liability. At the time, I really didn’t realize that I was performing valuable “tax coaching” and “business advisory” services that directly benefited individuals and small business owners.
When I began helping others with their taxes, I was working as an agency Controller with the State of Louisiana and felt very frustrated because there was little opportunity for professional growth and development. It was very discouraging because I had to make difficult financial and personnel decisions on behalf of my agency because State departments were required to make annual budget cuts required to balance the State’s budget due to economic downturns.
After working at the State for 10 years, I relocated to Frisco, TX to assist a growing small non-profit agency on a project to in-source accounting operations and develop a new accounting department. Once that opportunity ended, I wasn’t sure what direction to take. I knew that I was bored with working in a traditional office setting and believed that I could apply the same skill sets that I acquired over 22 years of working full-time into a new opportunity to serve others.
I just had an “internal knowing” that I could I could help individuals and companies develop comprehensive tax plans and provide business advisory services to increase their operational efficiencies. After prayer and thoughtful consideration in December 2017, I took a “leap of faith” and decided to become a new business owner.
In January 2018, I filed my LLC registration paperwork with the Texas Secretary of State’s office. I asked a dear new friend and respected businessman to be my new business mentor. He was very generous in providing wisdom and insights he gained over his 40 years in business.
Next, I began looking for opportunities to volunteer in local schools and to meet new business contacts via LinkedIn, Meet Up app events and trainings, local Chambers of Commerce and local networking groups such as 1 Million Cups Frisco and Texas Legends.
As I began to become more active on LinkedIn and in those networking groups, my new business contacts began sharing information with me and began referring my services to their business contacts and friends. Several of those contacts became “power partners,” and we developed mutual business referral partnerships to grow our businesses together.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, the road has definitely not been a smooth one. There were multiple challenges in trying to make the right business connections and meeting the right people that would find your business services as valuable and would be willing to pay market price for them.
Sometimes, people told me that they wanted my services, but failed to follow through on consultation meetings with me via phone or in-person or in making deposits so I could provide services they needed. Also, it was often challenging because it seemed like I received disjointed information on how to start the business from multiple sources.
As a new business owner, there really wasn’t a one-stop-shop, if you will, on where to obtain information on marketing your business, business development programs, business banking programs, and other contracting opportunities to help grow your business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with A.T. Collins Enterprises LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
A.T. Collins Enterprises LLC is a consulting company provides tax planning, tax preparation, and business advisory services to individuals and small to medium size businesses. I am most proud that currently, we are a small company that provides excellent customer service to our clients.
What sets my company apart from others is that I’m willing to go above and beyond the call of duty for my clients. I provide a needed service that few skilled tax experts will provide. I believe in being pro-active with my clients and educating them on business trends and tax changes that will directly impact their business, their profitability, and their individual families.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Frisco! Frisco is a very diverse and progressive city with lots of opportunity for personal and professional growth… I am so impressed that Frisco is becoming a national and international business hub. It’s great to live in a place that constantly plans to update its infrastructure to accommodate the influx of new residents and businesses.
Well, what I like least is that traffic is beginning to become just as congested as other parts DFW, especially on main thorough fares and the tollways.
