Check out Shaolin G, UnityTX’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaolin G, UnityTX.

Shaolin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Music has always been something that’s been in my blood. I grew up on a lot of Hip Hop; mainly West Coast because of my Uncle & older brothers. I moved from Saginaw, Michigan to Dallas, TX in ’96 & had a hard time trying to adjust to just about anything but playing video games. In 2000 – ’01 was when I moved to Farmers Branch and befriended a few kids that showed me bands like Linkin Park, Puddle of Mudd, System of A Down, Sum 41 & I discovered Limp Bizkit via WWF.

Discovering Linkin Park & the Tony Hawk Pro Skater series was a saving grace to be able to play Alternative Music in a household that was very unfamiliar with Rock Music. The Crossover between Rock & Hip-hop really made a staple in my life. From that moment I never really looked back. I spent most of my elementary school years playing around with Casio Keyboards, & Beat machines my family had, picked up guitar in middle school, & tried to start bands in high school. Nothing really clicked until like 2010 when I started going to shows/concerts/etc. I’ve been heavily active with live music & entertainment for about eight years now and have no intention to stop.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I shoot Photography, Cinematography, Produce, Play Guitar & Bass. I like to experiment with multiple genres, create music to touch the soul & visual aspect of things. I taught myself most of what I know over the past few years with determination to expand my horizons and a creator. The message that I provide is that anyone is capable of creating/influencing despite their ethnicity, disabilities, body shape, etc. I got that inspiration from many of our modern-day creators.

I hope that people can see that most of my projects mainly were created & worked on by myself. I pushed myself to learn, to work harder, to bring what I hear or saw in the back of my mind to life. A lot of my artwork is theatrical, part of a storyline; sometimes about my own life. Sometimes about this vivid dream, I’ve been seeing for years in my sleep.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
Don’t rush anything if you don’t have the clear vision of what you want; small victories are nice for motivation but don’t let that stop your progression. Always keep the bigger picture in mind. I wish I had worked harder and saved more money; been more patient, reached out to the ones willing to help before they faded away. You go through so many regrets, but it’s best not to dwell on them.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is placed all around the internet, mainly on Spotify, YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, SoundCloud. Etc. Just Google it for starters. The best way to support my work is to connect with me, following my social media is the key way to see what’s to come next. Sharing my work with their friends, family, etc. or pick up my music on whichever platform the consumer decides to look at any of my projects up on.
