Art & Life with Holland Cameron Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holland Cameron Martin.

Holland Cameron, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am originally from Fort Worth, Texas. I am 16 years old and have always been known as the “big girl!” I have always played at least three sports, I take voice lessons, I am in choir, and push myself in academics. I am in the top 6% of my class. And YES, I am blonde 😉 don’t let this blonde hair fool you!

I have always had people tell me I should model but because I am not built like a traditional runway model, I was scared to try. When I was 14 years old, my neighbor asked me to work at a convention for Texas School of Photography as a model. I decided to give it a try. I shocked not only others but myself. I kept hearing the words, “you’re a natural.” I got to model for a class that Lindsay Adler (New York) taught, as well as Russ Harrington (Tennessee). Talk about pressure (insert shocked face), here is a young girl with no experience and I get to work with two well known, incredible photographers. However, it was amazing and at that moment I fell in love with modeling. I got to see what others saw in me.

I then decided I am going to give this a shot, but I knew I had to really balance a lot of things in my life to be able to take this step. How does a 14-year-old balance academics, athletics, voice, model and still be a teenager all at the same time? I have had to make some hard choices but, in the end, I know it will be worth it all.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As a model, I want to inspire others. I want people to know that just because you’re, bigger, skinner, taller, shorter or have imperfections, it doesn’t mean you aren’t worthy. I am told by my own peers, “you’re not good enough,” “you’re not pretty enough,” or “you’re too big.” Although, words like that can break you down, make you want to give up and hurt you deep inside, they can also make you push harder. I have learned to stop listening to the noise and listen to the professionals. I have learned that your personality and how you treat others is what makes you most attractive in this life.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
My advice is don’t be afraid to try new things, work with new people. Sometimes the people you least expect can help you create the coolest things. I have met some truly amazing people along this journey and have made incredible friends.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
