Check Out Chevy Jones’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chevy Jones.

Chevy Jones

Hi Chevy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Photography, for me, wasn’t my first career plan by any means. I was in yearbook my 7th and 8th-grade year and enjoyed it capturing the school events, but once I got into high school, I was all about the Junior Air Force Junior Reserves Officers Training Corps (AFJROTC). Of course, my game plan from there was to be enlisted and make a difference in some way, shape, or form. Well, life obviously had a different game plan for me. A few months before graduating, a couple of my friends saw some landscape pictures I had taken and asked me to take their senior pictures. Ever since that moment, it has just been a snowball effect that led me to move to Denton, TX, in 2015 and continue this amazing passion. A few years later, I then started my videography path (2017) along with starting an amazing Facebook group (The North Texas LGBTQ+ Wedding Network in 2019) for all LGBTQ+ couples and allies so everyone has a safe space to plan their wedding! Every step has been a step worth taking, and I’ve never looked back! Along with all these new and amazing adventures, I have since married my one true love, and life just couldn’t be sweeter.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everyone thinks that photography is so easy and simple, but what people don’t understand is that it’s 10% picture taking and 90% business, marketing, and more. Starting out, I struggled to find the balance of it all, and I’m not going to lie; it still happens. But being able to talk with others about how to make your business better helps a ton! Another obstacle that I encountered was trying to connect with other photographers once I moved to Denton. A lot of photographers want to keep it all to themselves and not share a single bit of knowledge with you. Which made it really hard to connect. There was one photographer that told me that since I don’t use/was just learning off-camera flash (OCF) that I should just stop booking weddings. Those words alone lit an internal fire to show them that I wasn’t backing down and that I have what it takes to make it in the industry. Since all of these experiences, I have became the photographer and videographer I am today while still growing and creating the best content possible!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When it comes to the DFW area, I am mostly known for my continued allyship in the LGBTQ+ community and showcasing it to the world through my photography or videography. Being the founder and creator of the North Texas LGBTQ+ Wedding Network, you are not only working to showcase inclusivity and diversity but that all love is worth fighting for. With my continued work, I have been featured on LGBTQ+-owned podcasts, local vendor meet-ups to discuss inclusive, Equally Wed, and so much more. Overall, though, to be completely successful in this business, being 100% personal and honest with your clients is what I truly believe sets me apart. In a world filled with so much uncertainty and more, that’s all anyone wants.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
