Today we’d like to introduce you to Suave Burgandy.
Suave, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve had the blessing and burden of experiencing the good, bad, and the ugly of the entertainment industry as it exists in Dallas, Tx, and spaces beyond. I’ve also been fortunate enough to have developed relationships and skill sets that have afforded me countless opportunities. I wear many hats and keep kicks to match them all; artist, writer, marketing/branding strategist, DJ, podcaster, and Blog/Vlog host. I wouldn’t say I’m the best-kept secret, just a convenient omission. In this life, your either adapt to your surroundings and evolve or surrender to them. I burned all my white flags a long time ago. #PoliticalStatus
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
As an Emcee, I was always impressed most by those who could manipulate the English language, painting pictures with words. Then as a life long pro-wrestling fan, I’ve always had a fascination with larger than life presentation. Mix those two with the timing of stand up comedy, and you have my formula for #PoliticalStatus. I adopted those traits, added my own personality and experiences and according to some, I’m pretty good at rap lol. Whether it be as a part of the Dallas Zu supergroup, as a member of the #SkoundrelLife tandem, as part of #MOACA (Men Of A Certain Age) hip-hop experiment, or a just Suave Burgandy by himself…I stand out in the best way possible and occupy a lane that only I can cruise in. As a DJ, I just take my studio ear and apply it to whatever setting or venue I’m in. Reading a room, creating and sustaining a vibe, it’s all about the energy. Marketing and branding comes as easy as making words rhyme, sometimes easier. If you ever watch cartoons and see the lightbulb appear over someone’s head when they have an idea, I’m a lot like that… on repeat. I create from a genuine place, so I’m able to inject myself into all of my work no matter what platform or genre. If you feel it, you feel me, and from there we have a foundation to build.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think the challenges depend on the direction the artist wants to go in. Politics will always exist because that’s the only way some people can function in the creative world. They can’t control the game, but they can change the rules to keep certain players out of the lineup. If you want to be a “star,” then you’re going to need to follow the guidelines of the people who “make stars” these days. If you’re into the vibe of being a creative, then it’s a lot easier to function without boundaries, in which case the challenges are only what you make them. As long as you can make peace with your decisions, it’s all perspective.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
The best place to start is www.suave4mayor.com that’s home base for all things @Suave4Mayor, which ironically is the name to pull me up on all social media platforms and streaming services. There you can find all the music, media, merchandise, and mayhem. Including the impending release of the Mayor Muzik 3 EP. www.theurbanadvicate.com is home away from home for my online presence, www.brokenpencilbc.com houses the pro-wrestling podcast I co-host with @DanjahOne & @TheOfficialPettyMessiah.
