Hi Abigail, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
When looking to board my own dog, I could not find a service I felt comfortable with. Many of the boarding services in town keep dogs in an isolated cell, where they are identified by a number and treated differently depending on the level of care their owners pay for. I wanted a better option, not just for my dog but for every dog in the area. That’s why I created Barkyard, a place where dogs are able to roam free and play as much as their hearts desire. At Barkyard, every dog receives the same VIP (Very Important Pup) treatment.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’m fortunate enough that my biggest challenge is the rate in which the business has grown. In the eight months Barkyard has been open, we have had over 150 bookings, serving more than 75 different clients. I am grateful to have the help of my wonderful husband and the greatest employee of all, our dog Wolfie. However, I definitely have had my hands full. This is why we have all new clients take part in a thorough meet and greet prior to their stay, ensuring all guests are well-behaved and well-trained. We have to be strict with our vetting process to ensure all dogs get along and the business is able to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

As you know, we’re big fans of Barkyard Dallas. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a luxury boarding and daycare service offering private and semi-private dog care. Our structure allows us to give plenty of attention to each dog and their individual needs. On top of daily walks and unlimited playtime in one of the most amazing backyards in Dallas, Texas, we capture all their fun through adorable photographs and videos. Owners are able to follow their dog’s daily adventures via our Instagram: @BarkyardDallas. They can watch their pup play fetch and make furever friends in real time! More than this, I am most proud of the reputation we’ve built. As a dog mom myself, I know first-hand how important it is to find a service you can trust. After all, you’re not going to want to leave your fur baby with just anyone. I have so much love for every dog I have the privilege of looking after, and the fact that my clients recognize and appreciate that means the world to me.
