Joy Mpezeni

Hi Joy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Thank you for inviting me to this CanvasRebel/Voyage interview. It is an honor to share my story with your listeners. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect and provide insight into my journey and the work I am passionate about.

When I hit rock bottom, I was at a crossroads: either end it all or give it my all. As I listened to my children’s laughter in the other room, I knew that ending it was not an option. I had to give it my all, not just for myself but for them.

I began to pray earnestly, asking God to heal my heart and deliver me from the mental torment that had consumed me for most of my life. During this time, I made a vow to never remain silent and to use my life to help others who are where I once was. I promised to be a bridge to healing and wholeness.

This vow propelled me to create programs and offer services unavailable to me during my season of healing. Today, I am honored to say I am Building Bridges to Rebuild Lives! Glory to God!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wish I could say that it has been a smooth journey, but it most definitely has not been smooth sailing. Just as the healing journey is not linear, neither has my journey in business been straightforward.

Having lived the majority of my life with unaddressed wounds of abandonment and rejection, there have been many moments where I was triggered and faced the choice to either compromise or seek external validation by auditioning for people’s love and acceptance. Initially, this felt like the way to go, but I would remind myself that I was creating a new normal. I had to unlearn the old ways of doing things and embrace a healthier mindset.

Imposter syndrome often had me ready to quit, with thoughts like, “Who do I think I am, trying to help someone heal?” Echoes of those who knew the old me, calling me a fraud and claiming I would always be broken and no good, played repeatedly in my mind. Despite these challenges, I never gave up. I continued to invest in my healing and prayed that God would continue to deliver me from my past.

It has been a challenging road, filled with moments of self-doubt and external criticism. Yet, through it all, I remained committed to my vision and the people I aim to help. This perseverance has brought me to where I am today, stronger and more determined than ever to be a bridge to healing and wholeness for others.

As you know, we’re big fans of Pink Girl Teaches. For our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand, what can you tell them about it?
Pink Girl Teaches is a name that was dropped in my spirit on February 11th, 2011. Back then, I was in the midst of one of the most challenging times in my life, but I knew I was being called to something greater. This calling has since blossomed into a transformative journey, not only for me but for the countless women I have had the privilege to guide.

I am a Spirit-Led, Trauma-Informed Life Coach who partners with women ready to emerge from the shadows of narcissistic abuse and step into their most empowered selves. I have become the woman the 4-year-old me needed, and now, I am honored to help women from all walks of life rebuild their lives. Witnessing their transformation as they rise from the cold, hard floor of defeat is a profound privilege.

What sets me apart is my story. I am a survivor of childhood sexual assault, and two failed suicide attempts—I really shouldn’t be here today. I am also a survivor of domestic violence who refused to give up, holding on to God’s unchanging hand. This journey of survival and triumph has become the blueprint for my business and the lives I touch. My experiences uniquely equip me to connect with and support others in their healing journey.

At Pink Girl Teaches, we offer private coaching sessions, group coaching, and workshops. I created the PGT Academy, which provides comprehensive courses, and The Healing Lounge, our Netflix-like platform for healing after narcissistic abuse. In addition, I am a five-time author and an Amazon #1 bestseller, and I have created five journals dedicated to aiding in the healing process. And this is just the beginning.

My content extends beyond coaching. I create videos on TikTok and YouTube that explore narcissism and narcissistic abuse recovery not just from a psychological standpoint but from a Biblical and spiritual perspective. This holistic approach is integral to my work, ensuring that healing is comprehensive and rooted in faith and practical strategies.

I am incredibly proud of the community I have built and the lives I have touched. My tagline, “BUILDING BRIDGES TO REBUILD LIVES After Narcissistic Abuse,” encapsulates our mission perfectly. Pink Girl Teaches is more than a business; it is a lifeline for those who need guidance, support, and the tools to reclaim their lives.

For anyone looking to rebuild from the devastation of narcissistic abuse, I invite you to explore our offerings and join our community. Together, we can rise above and find strength in our shared journey of healing and empowerment.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One surprising thing that most people who know me or my work might not be aware of is that I am a phenomenal cook and baker.

Creating memories at the table through exquisite meals is a passion of mine. Around the time when I began mapping out my journey in business, I received countless catering requests, including from some high-profile individuals. This put me at a crossroads: would I create a catering and fine dining company or build Pink Girl Teaches?

I was very tempted to go the catering route because I knew I was incredibly gifted in the kitchen and had years of experience and training. I baked my first cake at seven, and even though it had eggshells, my dad bragged for days about how it was the best cake he had ever had. That moment resonated with me over the years, reinforcing my love for cooking and baking.

However, I chose the path of becoming a coach despite having no prior experience in this field. It was a leap of faith that frightened me, but I knew it was where I was meant to be. Today, I still flex my culinary skills in the kitchen for my friends and family. I’m always ready for a bake-off because, hands down, I bake the best carrot cake in the DFW area!

My journey into coaching made me question everything, but it also taught me the importance of following my true calling. While cooking remains a beloved hobby, my heart is fully invested in guiding others through their healing journey. This balance allows me to bring joy and nourishment to the body and the soul, creating holistic experiences that resonate deeply with those I serve.
