Today we’d like to introduce you to Melinda Dzinic.
Hi Melinda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally started in the dental industry, believe it or not but once I saw the displacement of the refugees of the former Republic of Yugoslavia, I knew I had to help them in some way. Most of them were craftsman and after helping them trying to get jobs with remodelers and builders, the language barrier proved to be the main barrier. So after some time I decided to create my own company, back then called Euro Building and Remodelers, now Euro Design Build, and we have been running for almost three decades now.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I quickly realized at the time that this industry was male dominated and when participating in builder and remodeler shows and conferences, I was constantly looked down on for being a woman, that’s where the fire started. It fueled my determination to make a difference in the industry and in people’s lives.
As you know, we’re big fans of Euro Design Build. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Euro Design Build is not like the rest of your mom-and-pop shops, or bob in the truck. At the heart of every designer and employee is the mission to get to know the homeowner. The goal is being able to figure out what is motivating their desire to make a change in their home. While doing this, both the design team and project team work tirelessly to make their vision come to life. My role at Euro Design Build, isn’t just the Founder and CEO, but a facilitator for the departments across the board. We pride ourselves over our extensive design process and preconstruction process before even starting renovation- the homeowner will know exactly when, what and how each material will be selected, when and who will install it, how long the process will take and who will take the blame of when things go south, which is me. I truly believe that integrity and transparency is what is lacking in this industry but is the foundation of how we practice our business operations.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was spending time with my grandmother in the kitchen watching her cook. I was so eager to get my hands on the dough and remember the smell of burek and pita baking in the oven and soup percolating on the stove. She would always light these candles, big and small, all over the kitchen and dining area whenever dusk would hit, making the space homey and inviting!
