Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Hogg
Hi Ben, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started playing saxophone in 6th grade and was instantly hooked. I was never a straight A student or even straight C for that matter but music, I was good at that. I played all throughout high school and eventually went to college for music. I started producing while I was in college. I had a friend who used to sample anything and everything and once he showed me how to do it, it was like God or the universe or something busted through the door, grabbed me by the shoulders, shaking me, saying, THIS IS IT! I had found the one thing that would I would obsess about day in and day out. After that, school (and really everything else) became secondary.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Meh, some days really suck for making music and other days make you feel like you’ve just won the lottery. Maybe that’s what I love about all of it. You’ll never know what kind of day it will be until you put the work in and find out. I wouldn’t have it any other way though. The uncertainty, flexibility, and creative freedom is appealing to me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
During 2020 while the world was shutdown, I decided to write, produce, record, mix and master my own EP called “As of Now”. I finished it within 3 months and I was pretty proud of myself. Knowing every sound on that project came from my brain and mine alone was a cool feeling.
My career is really just starting. I’ve been producing for the past 5 years and I’ve released a few songs and an EP but that all feels like practice to me. This year I really want to put my all into every aspect of my artistry and production.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Do what you love and ignore the bullshit. Be kind, laugh a lot, do uncomfortable things, and never take yourself too seriously
