Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach and Debra Christensen.
Hi Zach and Debra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Years before starting our photography business and before we got married, I had expressed to Zach that it was my dream to do a destination Bridal Couples session for ourselves. A destination elopement would have been so dreamy, but we ultimately decided to do something close to home and with all our family and friends for our wedding, so doing a destination Bridals Session would be the next best thing. I had no idea, but Zach had something in the works. Fast forward to the night before we left on our honeymoon flight to Hawaii, he said, “Make sure you pack your wedding dress… I have a photographer booked while we are there!” I was so surprised! We were able to spend a few hours with a photographer exploring the island and taking some incredible photos there! I treasure that experience and those photos to this day, and I will forever. This is where our passion for adventure photography began. We love traveling, we love photography, and we love meeting new people; So, so we turned our passion into a business. We took a lot of time to educate ourselves and practice. Not long after starting up, we began to book couples, weddings, and destination weddings. We have big goals for the future, and we are so excited about where this business can take us and our family!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh wow, it has never been a smooth ride. I think any business owner can attest to that. Especially after 2020. We started in Early 2019 and were still building our business when 2020 hit. This slowed things down; the weddings we did have that year were either modified or rescheduled. We also had our second baby in 2020, so we took some time to focus on our family. Since then, we have been investing in building ourselves and our business. We know it will continue to be a bumpy ride, but we are so excited for the adventure that it all holds!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a husband-and-wife photography team. We love working together, and we are both very creative-minded. Our passion for photography comes when we get to spend time with a couple in a beautiful location. It is in these moments, I feel, that our artistry is at its best. We really enjoy giving couples an experience when they book with us. We want to become their friend and help them feel as comfortable in front of the camera as possible. When they are comfortable that is when their relationship and a love story can really show.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Diving into photography was absolutely a risk for us. The investment of time, money, and the unknown. It was scary, and it still is sometimes. But for us, I think a little bit of risk-taking gives us life. Taking some risks, as wise as possible, really pushes us to grow and rise to those risks. I associate risks with working towards goals and dreams. We are such dreamers, and we have big goals, and I think that comes with taking a few calculated risks.
