Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Fox
Hi Ashley , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always loved art and making things since I was a young child. Some of my favorite memories is going to the craft store with my Grammy after school and help her make floral arrangements and other fun things. Once I was older I started to want to make my own things and so I did. In 2019 it started with headdresses then in mid 2023 I started doing entomology and oddity art and it has been such a fun journey!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business right as Covid hit the country wasn’t the easiest thing, especially with my main creations being things you would wear to big events and parties. But I stayed with it and stayed small then once we moved from Las Vegas to Texas in 2022 doors started to open and my patience paid off.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My main art has now shifted from headdress to entomology/ oddity art. I really enjoy creating beauty from death and showcasing the amazing creatures this world has to offer. One of the things that sets my art apart is how strict I am with my sourcing. I make sure every single thing I use is ethically and humanly sourced and will not cut corners just to make a profit. I keep my pricing lower than the average so that more people can afford to have my art and be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I met the awesome and creative owners of Crow and Hound back in 2022 at my first Renaissance faire and they really opened my eyes to how beautiful taxidermy art can be and that it can be done without harming any living creature. They inspired me to take that next step with using real animal skulls in my headdresses and then it just took off from there. I will be forever grateful to them for that and wish them nothing but continued success. I also have to give a shoutout to my family and husband who have always been there for me and supported me every step of the way and are always there when I need a helping hand at a show!
