Daily Inspiration: Meet Avery Pryer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Pryer.

Hi Avery, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Since I was a little girl, I always loved weddings and all things bridal. My mom used to take me to different bridal shops every Tuesday as a child and we would just look at all of the dresses and watch these beautiful women try on wedding gowns. In my first year of college, I was sitting in my sociology class and my professor was talking about norms in society and he mentioned one of those things is weddings. A lightbulb went off in my head and I just knew that what I wanted to do was to help people tell their love stories through their wedding day. In 2014, I received my Wedding and Event Planner certification. At the time, I lived in an area where there was not much need for a wedding planner and there was not really a market for the industry. A few years later, I moved back to the DFW area and hit the ground running on my business, trying to make connections and work on getting my name out there. Fast forward to now, I have had the privilege of being a part of over 100 weddings and have made some really amazing connections with other incredible vendors in the area. Moving back to the DFW area has been the best decision for my business and I just feel so thankful.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Getting to where I am at now has not been easy at all. There have been a lot of struggles and obstacles I have had to overcome and many sacrifices I have had to make. When I first moved back to DFW, it took a while to get my footing and to get my name out there to where I had people interested in hiring me. There were nights that I did not sleep while I worked on my business plan and marketing strategies. There were times that I was not sure where my meals would come from and ended up working several jobs in order to support my dream of being a full-time wedding planner. Even today, where I am constantly busy doing weddings, there are still challenges that come up but when I get to the other side of those challenges, I feel that much stronger and resilient and know that I can do anything I set my mind to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and event planner and own my own business called Avery Anne Events. I would say that my specialty when it comes to weddings and events is executing the bride and groom’s vision for their day and turning that vision into a reality that perfectly tells their love story. The most important part of a wedding to me is making sure that no matter how many guests, no matter what food is served, the bride and groom are represented and that they are the focal point. I love to see the bride and groom light up, and often times tear up when they walk into their reception space for the first time after everything is set up. It is such a special moment I get to share with the couple as they see all of the hard work finally pay off. Being able to witness the love a couple share and to see them share that love with their family and friends, is one of the biggest honors of my career.

Any big plans?
I like to envision my future in time sections. Within the next 1-2 years, I plan to start offering rental items or work exclusively with a company that will offer decoration rentals to my couples. I already have a list of preferred vendors that I work with on a regular basis (and they are all awesome!) but if I cannot supply the rental items myself, I would like to have a company that will supply those items for me. Within 5 years, my hopes are to be tying the knot myself and eventually start a family. It is my biggest dream to be a mom and a wife and to think about that happening in the next five years makes me really excited. Beyond that, I just hope to continue to grow my business and maybe do some destination weddings here and there. I did a destination wedding last year in Hawaii and it was absolutely gorgeous and so fun to travel for an event so I hope to do more of those.
