Daily Inspiration: Meet Jason Nix

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Nix

Hi Jason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Resurrection Global Methodist Church (GMC) was born in September 2022 with a dream to leave a legacy of faith in the Arlington, TX area. Resurrection GMC is dedicated to serving the community and sharing the love of Jesus with a world in need. Our church was formed by a group of believers who have been following the Lord faithfully for decades, so despite the young age of the church itself, our roots are firmly planted in the truth of the gospel as it is expressed through the Wesleyan context.

We currently gather for worship at the Arlington Music Hall. We have two Sunday school classes that meet at 9:30 a.m., and you are welcome to attend either class. Following Sunday School, folks typically gather around 10:30 a.m. to fellowship and grab some coffee, then we all gather for worship at 11:00 a.m. We would love for you to join us, and we can’t wait to meet you.

Our students (7th – 12th) also meet every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. with pastor Jason. Finally, we have rezKIDS (2yr – 3rd) at 11:00 a.m. This service is designed speficially for kids and meant to provide them with a safe and exciting environment to learn about God.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most new church plants are made up of young families and people in the their 20s. We are a bit different. Our church was formed by and older generation of faithful believers who responded in obedience to God to plant a church. Most of our church members are over the age of 65. Planting as church is no small task. Being a “Church-in-a-Box” is more difficult because you have to setup and breakdown all of the chairs, tables, and other ministry materials every Sunday. This is a challenge we have taken head on and we believe it is what makes us unique. If you are part of Resurrection GMC, you are going to be asked to serve and support the work of the ministry. No room for Christian consumers.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Most older churches don’t want to change anything. This is most often expressed in the content and style of worship music and liturgy that is used in weekly services. Well, since we are called to be a church that leaves a legacy, we know that we have to lay down our preferences in order to reach a new generation. We are firmly rooted in liturgies and hymns that have been used for hundreds of years, but we create new ways to implement those historic songs that appeal to a younger generation. With a high focus on artistic expression, we are seeing historical content gain new relevance and power.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid-19 was difficult for every church, regardless of it’s size or location. COVID actually did the church a favor and forced us to admit that what worked 30 years ago, doesn’t work as well today. Every church scrambled to purchase cameras and gear to move to a live stream format. Then we quickly discovered that simply throwing up a camera in the sanctuary was not sufficient to connect people to each other. So we were forced to create online communities that foster discipleship and spiritual growth. Online worship wasn’t invented during COVID, but it did become a requirement due to the pandemic.
