Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been the entertaining type! I love creating a delicious spread for guests and seeing people gather around the food for fun conversation. Although I went to school to be a teacher and softball coach, I’ve always the heart of an entrepreneur.
In June 2021, a friend asked me to create a charcuterie grazing table for her fiancé’s birthday party. I jumped at the opportunity to help elevate her event!!! After hours of grocery shopping and even more hours of prepping, the final product was an absolute hit! Everyone at the party was commenting on the grazing table and enjoying a new experience with each and every bite. It was at that party that the idea of “Boards by B” was invented! I like to joke that I had a Truly in one hand and meat and cheese in the other, and boom… a business was born!
About a week later, Father’s Day was approaching, and I threw a post out on Facebook offering charcuterie boards for the holiday! I sold a dozen instantly, and I’ve never looked back!
Boards by B recently celebrated its one-year anniversary as a small business, and after 12 years in education, I am stepping out on my own to pursue Boards by B full time.
Over the last year, we’ve seen growth and experienced growing pains! It has been an incredible year, to say the least!! We had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people and hear so many different stories from our clients. I’ve had the chance to create charcuterie boards for hundreds of reasons and occasions. From first birthdays to weddings, staff appreciation events, football parties, celebrations of life, corporate gifts, and everything in between. It puts a huge smile on my face when Boards by B can help elevate an event, party, celebration, or business!
Another fun part of Boards by B is our interactive charcuterie workshops! Think “Painting with a Twist” but with food! When someone walks into one of our workshops, they walk into an experience! Everything you need to create your own amazing charcuterie board is ready for you when you arrive. During the class, we taste test cheeses from different regions around the world, hear the history of some of our favorite cheeses, learn the ins and outs of charcuterie boards, and learn how to artistically elevate the food art skill! Everyone walks out of class with a custom engraved wooden board and food on it for four people!
These workshops allow me to use my teaching skill from my education and coaching background. Each class is different; making each one unique for the participants! Boards by B offers public workshops as well as private and corporate workshops. We also offer themed workshops which are always a hit!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road to success is never easy, but it’s the speed bumps that make the view beautiful.
One of our struggles is that so many people ask if we ship our boards. Technically, the answer can be yes; however, it’s very costly as it requires overnight and temperature-controlled shipping. Thus, Boards by B is truly a local business. It is our local community that is our livelihood. We do offer delivery, which is a huge convenience for our customers. The farthest we have delivered is Tyler, Texas.
Another topic that many don’t realize is the amount of work and preparation that goes on behind the scenes of a charcuterie board or grazing table. Sometimes I wish I could just snap my fingers and the table is done, but honestly, I would miss things like personally picking out the freshest produce or spending hours researching pairing options and selections. For instance, before I walk into the door to set up a beautiful grazing table, there has been over 10+ hours of work put in between just the shopping and food prep alone! Seeing the table come together and the client’s face makes everything worth it though! It has been fun being able to educate others on the behind-the-scenes of running a business.

With Boards by B, each and every charcuterie board is unique, and it’s designed that way on purpose. When I created the brand, I wanted to create a charcuterie that was one of a kind! I wanted to create a business that was both visually appealing and delicious. The copy-and-paste type of business didn’t attract me. Instead, I wanted each board, gift, table, or workshop to be an experience. I like to describe charcuterie as an experience in every bite. With every bite, you can change the cheese, the meat, the dip, or the cracker and completely change the flavor palette. That’s what makes charcuterie so fun!!
Boards by B offers a variety of things, and we are always brainstorming on ways to continue to differentiate ourselves from the competition! We specialize in beautifully and artistically designed charcuterie boards, grazing tables, fruit platters, corporate gifting/events, and interactive workshops. We love to come in and spoil your staff with breakfast or lunch spreads as well!

Instead, you’re supporting an former teacher and coach to build her brand from the ground up. You’re supporting a local woman. You’re supporting your fellow neighbor who you could very easily run into at the local grocery store or gas station. You’re supporting someone who feeds back into the community that YOU are also a part of! We donate to our local organizations and love the chance to partner with local PTAs to help spoil the school staff. I think it’s important to put a face to a local business, so it reminds you that I’m one of you. I am your fellow neighbor, your fellow community member, and your fellow small businesswoman.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Charcuterie is definitely a luxury product and industry, so it’s hard to say exactly where it will go; however, I know it won’t be going away. People love the variety, the flavors, and the view that charcuterie brings. It may shift over time as to what exactly the field looks like, but charcuterie is here to stay.

Our interactive workshops are currently $135 and include a custom engraved board, food to eat during the class, understanding the history of cheese, learning tips and techniques for making the board, and it also includes the food for four people that is on your board when you leave!
