Exploring Life & Business with Frankesha Watkins of BPolished Beauty Supply

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frankesha Watkins.

Hi Frankesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Opening a beauty supply store was never in the plans! However, I always had a love for all things beauty, especially hair care. In 2017 the desire to open a beauty supply started to be laid on my heart and as a Christian, I strongly believed this was the way God was leading me.

In 2018, I began to research the industry and even took a part-time job at Sally Beauty so I could learn more about the business. After doing my own research and securing funding, I opened my very first location in January 2019.

BPolished Beauty Supply has been open going on almost three years now. We have continually grown year after year and we have opened a second location in Addison, TX.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This entrepreneurial journey has not been smooth, with any business, there are ups and downs and growing pains.

The first year of opening BPolished Beauty Supply in 2019 was challenging. The biggest challenged we have faced when we opened our doors is obtaining the foot traffic we needed to sustain. However, with constant advertising, networking, and scaling of the business, we have been able to turn it around. We still have a lot of growing to do, however we have made great progress since opening our doors.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
BPolished Beauty Supply, an Arlington & Addison Texas-based beauty supplies platform and brick-and-mortar-shop that covers everything from conditioner and shampoo to protective style items such as wigs, crochet hair, and braiding hair, continues to redefine industry standards as a leading black-owned business today.

Despite the adversity and lack of black female representation in the beauty industry, as the owner I am determined to demonstrate what is possible with hard work, commitment to diversity, and savvy business acumen.

Black Women are the largest consumer of beauty products and dominate the industry in regards to dollars being spent. However, we have the least amount of ownership. In addition for years, the market has been flooded with products that have not been suitable for women of color. We deserve to have ownership in this industry and access to that same quality of beauty products, which is why I am so excited to be offering the best products.

BPolished is known for offering a selection of high-quality beauty products that are often hard to find at other stores in Texas. Shoppers can get their hands on everything from Obia Naturals Babassu Deep Conditioner, Bask & Bloom Silky Aloe Curl Pudding, Curls and Potions Rice Water Hair Rinse, to Soultanicals Rice Butta Shampoo, we don’t just stop at hair products –we also provide a wig and hair collection selection for all interested shoppers.

What sets apart? BPolished is a safe haven for our customers. Our customers are serviced by a knowledgeable yet professional staff, who provide tips for healthy hair care, speak to the products in the store and offer product recommendations. Ultimately, our customers are able to shop in an environment that understands their personal hair care needs and the beautiful thing about shopping at BPolished is that we are our own customers. Not only are we known for having a great selection we are also known for providing outstanding customer service to each and every person that visits us.
