Hi Sammi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sammi Bivens and I am a business owner and digital marketing guru based in Dallas, Texas. I am the founder and CEO of Digital Marketing Maven & Associates, a full-service digital marketing and business development agency for business owners that desire to perfect their branding while making themselves more visible to attract their ideal audience.
I am a first-generation college student who had little support or direction in my education and career journey. After graduating college with a bachelor’s in marketing and being unable to find a job in my field, I created my first business Tainted Rose in 2011. It was through my own entrepreneurial endeavor and experience that I learned the reality of start-up costs, branding, and marketing, which all led me to create my second business Digital Marketing Maven and Associates in 2019.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey to full-time entrepreneurship has not been a smooth road at all. However, I understand that nothing worth having will come easy. I have always known that I wanted to be a full-time entrepreneur, but I have always maintained a corporate career as well. Earlier this year, the company that I was working for restructured resulting in my entire department being laid off. I took that as a sign that it was time to pursue Digital Marketing Maven and Associates full-time. Luckily, I had been steadily building the business, so I was in a position to step right into it. If I were not laid off, I am not 100% sure that I would have truly taken the leap. It was a blessing in disguise.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We equip start-ups, existing small businesses, and non-profits with websites, logos, and other high-quality branding and marketing materials that will increase their revenue, visibility, and spotlight the businesses they have proudly created. Our competitive pricing models enable our small business clients to create the strategic marketing plans they need to level the playing field with bigger companies.
I also own an online gift shop for professional women and business owners. Owning a business, receiving a promotion or getting a new job are all life events, just like having a baby or getting married, yet we rarely celebrate these milestones. So, my gift shop is curated to treat hardworking women.
What sets me apart from many is that not only do I understand the many pain points of being an entrepreneur, but I also have the formal training of working in a corporate environment. I blend my entrepreneurial foundation with my corporate experience and education to help bring success to each aspiring or current business owner I work with. My goal is not only to expand my business, but my deepest desire is to help others realize their dreams. I am very passionate about helping others and using my talents and gifts to do so. I not only want to help them create a beautiful brand identity, but I also want their business to be sustainable for scalable growth.
What makes me proud is seeing my clients succeed. I wouldn’t consider my business as successful if my clients were not thriving. Some of my clients have been able to resign from their jobs and support their families because of the business we helped them create. To date, we have helped over 200 individuals and launched 40+ businesses. We have been able to service this many clients despite the pandemic, despite 90% of my team being contractors and despite me personally having a full-time job for the first year and a half of my business. I am also very proud that a few of my team members have solely worked with DMM through the pandemic. I am grateful that I have been able to provide opportunities for other individuals as well as myself.
