Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor Saldivar.
Hi Victor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It was back in 2019 when I tore my left ACL, it was torn for years but it had finally given out, after going through surgery I was forced to stay home to recover for a couple of months. I had to ask for help to do everything from going to the restroom, showering, and moving in my own bed. My mental health was in poor shape and depression began to kick in, I kept telling myself I’m here at home with nothing but time on my hands, I can’t let this time go to waste, I had always liked detailing my own truck and my money was running low. Wondering and thinking to myself “I think I might start a detailing business, not sure how but I am” I watched countless videos on YouTube on how to start, what to buy, and trying to find all the “secrets to perfecting detailing”. My fiancé at the time and I were on the road for an event she was attending and out of the blue I came up with the name Ride and shine mobile detailing, it just came to me and I felt solid about the name. After 8 months of physical therapy and about 100 YouTube videos of detailing I took action and started the business up, I made a ton of mistakes in the beginning and honestly charged way too low, I wasn’t making any profit. I made some changes and learned the hard way along my journey. Working a full-time job and detailing as much as possible on my days off, things had finally begun to look right for me and I made the decision to go full time in June 2021 with my business. Now in 2022 I have three great employees under Ride and shine mobile detailing and great relationships with multiple businesses. We are on track to have our best year yet; my wife Claire Saldivar has been by my side and my rock through all of this and by the grace of God he has me exactly where I need to be, and I’m so very thankful for that.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggled in beginning for about the first year and a half, I was charging way too low and had to chase down people to pay me for my service sometimes, I didn’t have a business plan to go by so I was initially just winging it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Ride and Shine mobile detailing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We specialize in auto detailing, marine, and pretty much anything you can think of that has wheels. We restore vehicles that have been through hell and back or vehicles that have never seen more than 20 miles of the road. we offer paint correction and ceramic coatings to help the longevity of a car’s paint.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’d say first recognizing that you don’t know it all and that advice has to be received well. Once you do that, then you can decide if a mentor is for you. Networking is great getting out of your comfort zone and learning how to open up to other people who are just like you is my advice. It takes just that one person you meet and they can help elevate your business to the next level.
