Today we’d like to introduce you to Carline Uwajeh.
Hi Carline, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Carline Uwajeh, and I’m a doctoral-prepared nurse practitioner from Chicago, now residing in Dallas, Tx. I credit my upbringing a lot for how I got to where I am today, I was raised by a wise Haitian mother who believed in me and paved the way as an entrepreneur and woman of many talents and by a Nigerian father with a successful automotive business. I knew that succeeding in life didn’t just mean excelling in my career but also forging my own path. Now at 27, I have a black-Woman owned business in a predominantly male-dominated industry. Comfort U Logistics is named after my grandmother, Comfort Uwajeh, who unfortunately passed earlier this year. This business means a lot to me as I have made the mission to deliver comfort, knowing I have a personal angel guiding us every step, or mile, of the way. I enjoy being a primary care provider by day, caring for those in my community, but I was destined to be an entrepreneur by serving people locally and nationwide through Comfort U Logistics, LLC.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve learned that challenges arise no matter the task; it’s all about how you handle them and learn from them. A struggle we faced as a new company in the trucking industry includes establishing relationships. It takes a few months of work before people acknowledge and trust you with their product, and we have done our best to form great relationships with our brokers. With the help of my amazing team, including fleet manager Laurice Ivy, we are able to overcome these hurdles one day at a time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As a trucking company, we specialize in safely and securely delivering freight and goods nationwide —but I believe everyone in this industry will claim to do the same thing. As a black woman-powered business, Comfort U Logistics stands out by focusing on the details that make every trip and delivery one of ease and efficiency. We do our best to truly provide comfort to our drivers and brokers by thoroughly communicating and organizing all of the intricate details surrounding deliveries. Our attention to detail and ensuring that every delivery is tastefully performed is what makes us a great company to work with. We hope to continue providing great service locally and nationwide!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for those looking to be successful in any endeavor would be to look at people who are successful and tweak the blueprint. A mentor is an amazing tool and it is important to remain teachable at all stages. But while learning, I also encourage everyone to find a way to stand out and make your skill your own. True passion breeds from embracing all of the challenges and growths that come with a new task.
