Inspiring Conversations with Jay Nicole of Glo Up Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Nicole.

Hi Jay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Glo Up Studio in 2018. I had just got out of corporate America working in the life and auto insurance industry. I knew that working for someone just wasn’t for me, and I had always done hair on the side. I went to cosmetology school right after graduating high school in 2012 and got pregnant with my son. So instead of going right into the hair industry from cosmetology school, which was the initial plan, I thought that corporate America would be best but quickly found out that it just wasn’t something that I was thrilled to go into every day. So that’s when I was introduced to salon suites, and how opening my own business wasn’t as hard as I thought it had to be.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Mmm opening the business wasn’t hard no, but the journey getting to that point was yes. It took me way longer to get my cosmetology license than it should have. At one point I was going to school and doing hair outside of school to pay for bills. I quickly learned that doing both wouldn’t work. I started missing school to work, and then after about 2 or so years of doing that my school instructor sat me down, and was just like Hey! you got to stop this or you’ll never finish. So, she actually let me take my own clients at the school just so I could do both, working and receiving my credited hours to finish.

We’ve been impressed with Glo Up Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Glo Up Studio is located in Allen, Tx we specialize in hair extensions and healthy hair. We are known for our Sew-ins and silk presses, but do all extensions, lash extensions, and sell virgin hair and hair products that promote the upkeep on the hairstyles offer at Glo Up Studio.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The hair industry is forever changing and evolving and I’d like to think that Glo Up Studio is the same. In the next 5-10 years I see Glo Up Studio in a large salon space in the same area, Allen, providing hair services to women with all types of hair. We also hope to be one of the only one-stop shops in the area where women can come get their hair, makeup, and lashes done and a salon where any hair product or hair extensions that are needed can be purchased there as well.
