Life and Work of Baye Zilla

Today we’d like to introduce you to Baye Zilla

Hi Baye, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Originally, I am From Alexandria, Louisiana. A Small town, but it is the Heart of Louisiana. It’s Central Louisiana. I relocated to Dallas/Fort Worth in 2015.

You know how some people grow up in a musically talented family like Beyoncé + Solange & Michael Jackson + The Jackson 5 and they have their own great singing voice or instrument that they can play really well. Or how some artists are like Kanye West & Lil Wayne and they started off very young and you can see the potential of them being bigger. Well, music was not my first calling or second or third or 21st lol (joking) for that matter. I am what you call a “Jack of All Trades” as I like to say “Jade of All Trades” “I am not a Master of 1, but I am proficient in Many”. Every job I had I did well in and always was promoted, but it didn’t seem to fit me. It’s like I always wanted to make difference and be a voice but maybe not at this place or not at this place. It became frustrating because so many were telling me you’re good at this, we want to offer you more, but I kindly would decline because my Heart wasn’t in it. Okay. So pretty much in 2019 Before the Pandemic I went to a friend of mine who had been involved in music since Jr. high school, he had done performances and had songs out and I knew that he was the closest person to me with any knowledge about being an artist with like Hands-on experience. So, I called him, yes, I was nervous and I said, “Hey Roder stand it’s Baye, I want to be an Artist, I want to Rap, Sing, Everything”. He says, “I think you should, you have a nice voice for it” Now that may seem like a little to nowhere for some, but for

His Response was the confirmation I needed. He later set me up with studio time and let me know I needed to hear myself record. I did and I was a little iffy, but everyone loved my voice and they were like your just nervous you will get over it with time. So, I started writing songs and at the end of 2019, I had my first show. On December 10, 2019. I was going to let everyone know that I was ready to take over the music scene. Well, it wasn’t my time. I went through a traumatic experience in December. On Dec 8th I was Racially profiled when pulled over by a state trooper while headed to my first Performance, which caused me to cancel my performance. Then shortly after my older sister was found Deceased. which for me was like an awakening to go for everything even harder. So, starting fresh in 2020 I moved to Houston, COVID 19 Happened. We are all on Lockdown & I am working on Music. Perfecting my unique sound and watching interviews with other upcoming artists. Learning the business. I wasn’t done with Dallas yet in March 2021, I moved back with a purpose back in 2015 I had moved for Work to get a good Job. This time I am working on becoming a well-known upcoming artist. So, I met a few promoters and other artists and I started performing and networking and moving around from venue to venue. & I have received great Feedback. & Support from strangers. Everyone I started with is no longer with me including Friends and Family. It’s not a bad thing you just sometimes outgrow your circle and it’s time to move on. They didn’t offer the support I needed to help guide me through the journey. I wanted to learn the business and grow. Not just be another local. I move with a purpose. Here we are in July 2022 and I have been able to see my growth & I know where I used to be and how I started off back then, what I used to sound like, and how nobody knew who I was but hey, I’m an Upcoming Artist. My voice is very unique, you know it’s me. My mind is something I will not waste. I have great Ideas for the future and I am working on a debut Album. I can’t wait to release it., so people can really hear the creativity and the unique sound of my voice. Let’s see where I’m at a few years from now. I have to stay consistent.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been easy, it’s what you make it. You lose friends along the way, that’s to be expected everybody is not going to believe in your Dream. You have to make them Believe. You have to put the Art out there for them to see, hear, and talk about.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Recording Artist and Entrepreneur. I own the New Record Label ZLA Records. We are a private music label right now; I have not started any services to the public as of yet. I want to be one of the Top Female Owned Record Labels in the World. That is my future Goal. I’m so proud of myself. No matter how hard it has gotten and will be I am not ready to throw the towel in just yet.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, that’s when I discovered my voice, my talent, Myself. In all that free time, I had time to think, practice, and learn.
