Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Navedo.
Hi Edwin, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
And so, my story begins a short time after Covid hit the US, losing my job gave me some much-needed time to be able to get back into gaming. For 8+ years, I was in the hospitality industry & it was so demanding that I just did not have much time to play games. I would play games every night with my friends since there was no need to wake up early & go to work the next day & from there the idea to start streaming began. An old friend of mine came to me with an idea of “maybe we should start streaming?” & funny thing is, back then, it did not make sense to me to watch someone else play video games or do something else, but the idea intrigued me, so we got to work. I had a PS4 at that time & we began streaming on Twitch on July 2nd, 2020, with a game called Gundam Vs Gundam Maxiboost ON & I gotta tell you I had no idea where this would take me. A month later we achieved affiliate status & we began looking into getting me a PC to take the stream to the next level. Around the end of September, I finally was able to get a PC & really started learning & researching more about streaming & content creating. As of this writing, it’s been almost 3 years that I’ve been streaming & content creating & it has been both a wild & tough ride but we’re still at it. So many incredible moments, amazing opportunities & the meeting of so many wonderful individuals from their respective communities have pushed me to always give it all I got! My father always taught me to never give up & that’s what my team TheNewTypes stands for, hope, light & never giving up! Without a few key individuals & their supports, I would have not made it this far & I am so grateful to those people for their undying loyalty & support. We are now a glorious affiliate, an RGB Custom PC partner & will be so much more as this journey continues! It’s like I always say, the best is yet to come. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say that it has not been a smooth road these last 3 years of content creating/streaming. I have spent majority of the time depressed & dealing with a lot of mental health issues like anxiety & panic attacks. I am definitely what they call a “Pandemic” streamer & so there was a lot of uncertainty at that time, being unemployed, worrying about how I would pay my bills & feed myself as well as other personal struggles that I deal with in my situation. The best part about it all was the support I was receiving from close friends to close family members & even new individuals whom I’ve met through this venture. I was never alone but after a while that all changed. I experienced burnout quite often, maybe from streaming too much, trying to stay relevant by posting content daily on social media & stressing the numbers which is all part of the industry. I am grateful for the ones that were during that time & for the ones that are still here supporting & there for me & the team. I can also mention the cost of streaming & content in terms of gear & things needed to push the content to the next level especially when not much many was being made, we’ve been blessed more times than I can count & we’ve been able to make things happen ourselves through sheer hard work & well-putting smiles on people’s faces. When I moved from NJ to TX, I got my Sony ZV1 camera stolen & it broke my heart cause I worked so hard to get it. It’s certainly been a tough ride but we’ve kept pushing cause we never give up.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a streamer/content creator. I stream on Twitch & push out content to YouTube, TikTok, Instagram & Twitter. My streams & content are known for being LOUD, hype, clutch moments, sound effects to add to the craziness. I sing this song that I named “Nugget Love” to whatever streamer raids into my channel with their viewers & community; the more I know about the streamer or community, I freestyle the song & make it about them & thank them for bringing their viewers & community over to the channel. I’m proud of how far we’ve gotten with what we got & with what I’ve been through, it has not been easy at all, but no matter what’s happening personally, I always go live with a smile on my face & put on a show that hopefully no one will ever forget. My goal is to entertain all & put a smile on everyone’s face while they have a good time in my corner of the internet. I think what sets me apart is that I am real, I call it like it is, show genuine support to my fellow creators & finally the stream & content isn’t something so easily described, you kinda just have to witness it for yourself, it’s so wild. You never know what you will get from a Batwin & TheNewTypes stream, EVER.
What are your plans for the future?
The future is bright, there’s so many plans in the works & so many things I want to achieve & make happen. I will be moving in about 2 months’ time & I am hoping to finally have my own stream room & actually decorate it & do this one thing that I have wanting to do ever since I started singing my songs Nugget Love & A Newtype of love, but that one is a secret. Hoping to go to more conventions, so far, we got Dreamcon in the books which is amazing because I am a big fan of RDCworld1, they are a huge inspiration to TheNewTypes & dare I say they are what we want to be one day. Hopefully, we can go to Twitchcon again as well. I am hoping to make big leaps with the stream & content creating but I’m trying to figure all that out as the year progresses. The goal is to go full-time as a streamer/content creator as well as achieve financial freedom. We’re getting new PCs from our partners in In RGB Custom PC (based in Dallas, go check them out) so we’re very excited to do dual PC setups to finally take the stream to the max quality possible!
