Life & Work with Eliza Gray of Dallas, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eliza Gray

Hi Eliza, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always been in love with fashion and I have had the pleasure of experiencing almost every facet. I have had the honor of working and attending multiple fashion week events, managing my own shows, working wholesale, e commerce, luxury wardrobe styling, AND photography.

I basically just jumped in where I was needed in New York and LA and made the most of my connections. I was always genuinely curious about how different facets of the fashion industry worked and how the departments worked together. I think a lot of my connections came from just being genuinely curious about other people and always being willing to learn.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say a big struggle was being a minority in the luxury fashion industry. The rooms I was allowed in included maybe 1 or 2 different races max. There was definitely a very clear feeling of you can be promoted, but not past this point.

People underestimating me as a minority sometimes adds fuel to my drive. I want success and POCs to be associated with each other seamlessly. I want a little girl to look at me and say she can do it too.

I also try my best to be friendly because it is an experience I wish I had more of myself starting out. We would be much stronger if we worked together instead of against each other.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a luxury wardrobe stylist by day, and a creative director of my own magazine by night. I had my launch party for my magazine this year and it was so much fun and a huge success, more to come on that soon.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I had some very strong and career driven mentors in my life. The biggest cheerleader being my Mom. She is in finance with 3 degrees so she has great business acumen, however she never forced me to be anything I am not. I think she is one of the reasons I have such strong convictions about my vision and direction. Other people that had a lot to do with that are my Uncle, close friends and family and my relationship with God. I am also very passionate about mental health and healing. After my Dad had passed away I woke up to just how important doing inner work on yourself is. No matter how healthy you think you are, there is always something you can work on and that also keeps me centered.
