Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyesha Davis.
Hi Tyesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a millennial mom, wife, self-published author, and entrepreneur. I have always loved to write and have written short stories and poetry since a very young age in elementary school. I started my business as a self-published author in the summer of 2020. At the time, I had a two-year-old son, and I was not finding picture books with the information I desired for my son. My husband and I had purchased many of the popular mainstream children’s books, but my son was not engaging in the stories, and honestly, I wasn’t either. I wanted my son to have books with characters who looked like him engaging in fun and adventurous scenarios.
During my pregnancy with my son Teddy, I experienced many complications. I was on bed rest and had pre-term labor and an emergency c-section. Teddy was delivered happy, healthy, and full of personality. As he grew, he was always very adventurous. Seeing and experiencing the world through my son’s eyes is how I came up with the book series; Teddy’s Terrific Adventures.
The stories in the Teddy Terrific Adventures Series are actual events or scenarios from our everyday life, slightly elevated with imagination. I am a poet, so my children’s books rhyme and have quick fun facts for children to learn as they engage in the stories. My goal for my books is for children and their caregivers to engage and bond during Storytime. I want children to understand what is happening in the story, ask questions, relate and enjoy the colorful illustrations.
Presently in 2022, I have a total of 9 children’s books across three book series; Teddy’s Terrific Adventures, Shine On! and the Mommy and Teddy series. The Teddy’s Terrific Adventures Series is about the fun and adventure of childhood. The Shine On! book series promotes self-love and confidence, and the Mommy and Teddy series is about family and traditions.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth but has been very rewarding. As a self-published author, I am everything for my business. I am the writer, creator, marketing, website designer/manager, fulfillment, brand ambassador, social media manager, and more! I had to learn by trial and error how to set up my business and make it work. I am still learning, growing, and finding my rhythm.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am focused on creating new stories, finding new ways to reach my little readers and their parents and expanding my brand. I am always open to collaborations and partnering to impact as many children as possible by creating fun and authentic stories that boost their confidence and capture their attention to help them foster a love of reading.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The qualities I believe have been essential to my success are not being afraid to fail, being a lifetime learner, knowing my audience, catering to my customer base, and staying true to my vision for my business.
