Today we’d like to introduce you to Alanah Jackson.
Alanah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a loctician out of Dallas. I started doing locs about 12 years ago in Kansas City, Missouri. My cousin would let me help her, which lead to me going to cosmetology school. After school, I decided I only wanted to do dreadlocs. So I started working in a barbershop! It became my life. To help people feel good about themselves, and help them maintain healthy locks while doing is the best. I have been in Dallas for six years now. It is the best move I could have made! I not only enjoy what I do. I’m good at it! I have met so many people, and I look forward to going through the loc journey with many more!!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Moving to Dallas from Kansas City at the age of 24 with a five year old was tuff! I only knew one person here, other than the friend I moved here with. No family, just me and my friend. I never got a 9 to 5 though, I trusted God and found a barbershop to work in. From then on, I hustled hard and shared my brand with everyone I could. I went from 1 client to so many out can’t even count!
Please tell us about your work.
My company is Exclusive|Loc’d (Lanahslocs). I specialize in dreadlocs. I can do anything you want or need to your locs from color, retwists, reattachments, even loc extensions. I’m known for doing more than one person at a time, and getting my clients in and out!! I’m proud to say I went from working in barbershops for 11 years to having my own. As well as in the process of getting a bigger one. I am like no other loc stylist I build relationships with my clients, and make sure I meet their needs. I use all-natural products that are good for growth a healthy locs!!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was born in California, so as a child I always loved flying to see my dad in Kansas City!! We would go skating every Friday night over the summer. It was always fun.
