Meet Allison Mammeli of Pretty Sweet Custom Cookies in McKinney

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Mammeli.

Allison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved to cook and bake, even as a little kid. I remember staying up every night until 10pm just so I could watch Emeril Lagasse’s cooking show on TV. My love of food combined with Pinterest and all things cute is what sparked my interest in decorated cookies. I just thought they were SO cute and I wanted to learn how to make them so I could gift them to family and friends. It started out as a fun hobby, but the more I posted pictures of my cookies on social media, the more people started to ask me to make some for birthday parties, etc. Before I knew it, it had grown into quite the busy side-hustle. In July of this year I quit my job and chose to pursue my dream of being a full time cookie decorator, and here I am!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but I don’t think any business owner would tell you that. I think part of being an entrepreneur is going through the struggles, if it were easy everyone would do it. I’ve never been afraid of hard work. One of the biggest struggles I face, is working long hours and late nights. When you’re the only person in the company, you have to do it all, and sometime that means being awake for more than 30 hours at a time in busy seasons. Let’s just say I never turn down a cup of coffee!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pretty Sweet Custom Cookies – what should we know?
I specialize in decorated cookies for events such as weddings, showers and birthday parties. Something that makes me stand out is the taste of my cookies. There’s nothing worse than seeing a beautiful dessert, and biting into it only to discover it tastes like cardboard. For me, the taste and look are both equally as important, and that way you don’t feel guilty about eating something so pretty! Something that sets me apart would be that I love to share my craft with others! I host bi-monthly decorating classes at a local coffee shop, where I teach others how to love what I love. People love the classes, and it’s a nice way for me to connect better with my customers. I’m most proud of the way this business has helped me grow as a person. I’m typically more of an introvert, so teaching classes and interacting with new people every day isn’t something I would’ve ever guessed I’d be doing for a living, but I am, and I love it!

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
Not a single thing. Everything that I have gone through with this experience, good and bad, has taught me something. It’s hard not to feel down or be hard on myself when I mess up, after all, there’s nobody else to blame. But even through the longest nights and the most frustrating mistakes I’ve made, all these things taught me to be a better business owner moving forward. My only regret is not discovering my love for decorated cookies sooner!

I’ve had Allison’s cookies before and they are delicious and unique, a work of art. Try them, you will love them.
