Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Ybarra.
Amber, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Firstly, Thank you so much for your time. It’s a pleasure to be here, and I’m excited for all things, VoyageDallas Magazine. At the moment, I am based out of San Antonio but work and travel very often. I’ve spent most of the teens and early twenties delving into my creativity, working odd jobs to afford to travel throughout the United States and around the world…
I went from a working Model signed with two major agencies, to becoming a Photographer, then Makeup Artist and Painter; shooting commercials, and eventually opening my own business in the world of Construction. Polar opposite huh? Many people who know me ask what my thought process was behind it, and honestly, I saw an opportunity to grow and learn as a businesswoman.
I needed to allow myself the opportunity to be well versed in many aspects of business & investment opportunities, and I have now been in that world for over four years! As a multi-passionate person, I truly wanted to express myself fully and try all types of art forms and creative outlets as well as, take a chance on myself as a Woman in Construction, to see what it was, that would be my forever thing.
How does this tie into my upmost Passion Project yet… The Positive Platform wasn’t started until the end of 2017. By this time, I had already been a business owner of 3.5 years, handling house flips, investments, still dabbling in my art, producing art shows, and I had worked myself to the bone. I thought of The Positive Platform, because I wanted all of my passions for business, art & a community for those like-minded individuals, to exist under one hub.
That year, I was fortunate enough to work crew for a huge event out of Las Vegas around influencers such as Tony Robbins & Eric Worre, which grew into taking flight all over the US and being part of a community with such Masterminds as Jay Shetty, Brendon Burchard, Mel Robbins, Lewis Howes… the list goes on.
What I learned from that was 1.) I was capable of manifesting these goals and 2.) Surrounding myself around those with a Greatness and Winner kind of mindset, shifted my own. It’s truly what continues to propel me towards the best version of myself.
I have so many goals for 2019 for MadClass in specific. We have the MadClass Podcast being launched in March. My first book, in which I have been working on the past seven months, will finally be published at the end of March; (updates on my website www.amberybarra.com), along with many other growth opportunities.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’m so happy you asked that question. I feel it’s always the better choice, to be honest, and open about the realities of going All In, in anything you do in life.
For me, It took over two years to build my construction company, which meant I had to give up time away from my art, my family & friends, zero social life. What motivated me most, was learning so many new things in a field I had always been interested in.
One that I knew would be worth it because being financially free, is a type of Freedom you need to work so darn hard for, and I knew this would help me leverage all of the other dreams I wanted to conquer. With MadClass the last one in half years, the biggest challenge I had was in the transitional period.
-Would I be able to handle a second business?
-Was I stretching myself too thin?
-Could I run both companies 110%?
-Am I willing to risk failing; in either, If I couldn’t handle it?
All of those questions were very real. That same year, I had started MadClass, I took a solo trip through five Countries to have some ME time, before coming back to hit it all 110% charged. I moved twice, I went through a business divorce with my old partner who had become toxic in my life… I started from scratch on my own. It was one of the most difficult times in my life and one of the most Empowering.
It took time, it took structure, it took facing so many fears head on!! There’s a new quote I love, “Face it, till you Make it.” And that’s exactly what I did. The paperwork, the connections, the scary Facebook and Instagram lives, the writing, the Vulnerability the marketing, the long hours. Juggling the right amount of sleep for me, so I didn’t burn out.
One of the most important things I’ve learned through all of this has been this:
There may not be a perfect balance, but we are capable of Doing it All!!
It will take sacrifices, but if you love what you’re doing enough, it’ll all get done, with all 110% of You.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
As the owner of The Positive Platform, along with my brand, my goal is to create a Community to support and motivate other Creatives and Business Owners, so they can reach their Next Level!!
What sets us apart is this:
It’s my goal, to bring my training in High Performance & Self Development, along with real Business experience, and to share that with you all. We share this in the form of media, free events and most importantly a community where we gather other positive mindset individuals, who are successful in what they do, and we bring that knowledge to you.
I’m most proud of starting. We have had small events in Phoneix, London & San Antonio. We look forward to growing our community and creating a positive impact with other Dreamers & Doers!
What were you like growing up?
I’ve really always been the same Art loving, too serious, focused, multi-passionate person that I am now.
I grew up in poverty, and I just knew that a scarcity mindset would do me no good. There had to be more out there… so if I didn’t have the money to do it, I would work multiple jobs to educate myself and afford the things I wanted. So I graduated early and moved out by 17 years young. I’ve worked very hard, for every single thing I’ve got.
I was always interested in music, art, self-expression, business. I love how that’s what has driven me all these years… to prove to myself that the gifts G-d gave me, would be put to use.
