Today we’d like to introduce you to Aqua Webb.
Aqua, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Have you ever had moments that changed your life when you realized from that point on you wouldn’t be the same? I didn’t recognize these moments as they were happening, but looking back on my journey, I see where they shaped my future and helped define who I was to become.
My first defining moment arrived while I was in transition during my divorce and working as an assistant in my sister’s salon. I was giving a client a scalp massage during her shampoo treatment. After the after her service, she approached me and thanked me for taking away her headache. As a bonus, she gave me a tip! I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of satisfaction and joy that moment brought me. Not long after, I was introduced to the massage industry and found that I could have moments like these all day long.
The second defining moment happened when I received my first Neuromuscular Massage. At the time, I felt stalled in my massage career because I saw the same pain patterns reoccurring in my clients. I had no workable long-term solutions within my skill set to resolve the chronic issues I was seeing on a daily basis. However, I recognized immediately that Neuromuscular Therapy was the gateway to solving my massage crisis, and I spent the next two years studying to earn my advanced NMT certification. My entire business changed from the ground up, and NMT continues to shape and define what I do to this day. My business, my goals, and my life-direction were forever changed because of these two events.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Most pivotal in my start-up business was being just that; a start-up. Entrepreneurship sounds wonderful when you think of the freedom of making your own hours, no demands from a boss, and truly taking control of your own work. The downside is that a successful business sometimes takes 3-5 years to become solvent, and that’s assuming you make it that long. The first year I started my business, I needed help paying my electric bill, buying groceries, and I even had my car repossessed. Not an encouraging start I can assure you. I didn’t give up though, because I knew if I could get enough people to experience the kind of massage I was offering, the business would grow itself. And grow it did! After two years, I started seeing positive financial gains. By year three, I had won my first award for Best Massage. In 2014, I was awarded three more “Best Massage” awards. Word spread, and soon I had a waiting list of eager clients and glowing 5 star reviews from multiple review websites. The work involved getting to this point was daunting and exhausting, it took incredible determination to see it through, and I didn’t do it alone.
It is rare for someone to achieve the heights of success without help from others. It was a sister who introduced me to massage and gave me my first job in her salon. Another sister and my parents who helped me with my kids while I went to school and worked three jobs to support myself. A local food bank and church supplemented my groceries. Later, after I moved to Frisco, it was my church, a local charity, and friends who helped me financially. Throughout it all, my fiancée (now my husband of six years), children, and family gave me tremendous support and encouragement while I established Massage Refection.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Massage Reflection story. Tell us more about the business.
I am most passionate about my specialty massage certifications. When I began my business, I offered many “spa” services like Hot Stone Massage, Body Scrubs and even Wraps that are no longer on my menu. That’s because there are hundreds of massage clinics and spas that offer these treatments. I began to narrow my focus to Sports Massage, Pain Management and Injury and Surgery Recovery after I completed my Neuromuscular Massage Therapy Certification (NMT). I realized North Texas needed more therapists than ever before to address these areas, especially as the sports and fitness centered population boomed. Simply put, I saw a need and filled a gap that was sorely needed.
Since becoming an NMT, I have honed my specialized skills even further by completing my Lymphatic Therapy training as well as earning my Certified Personal Trainer certification (CPT). I am currently in school working on my Master Myoskeletal Therapy certification (MMT), which will undoubtedly bring and additional level of wellness and health to my clients.
My goal in every session I give is to exceed the expectations of my clients. I strive to help them experience a new way of living and moving, give them freedom from pain, and maybe even restore some of hope they might have lost while living with chronic pain.
I am grounded in the knowledge that the body wants to be whole and work properly. I am a facilitator of change that brings the body to a new state of homeostasis. Every day I am excited by my work and the people I can help, from age 10 to 110.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe you make your own luck. There were many trying circumstances in my life where I could have given up and walked away. I am successful because I had the vision to see myself succeed and the determination to persevere no matter the obstacles. It is easy to make excuses and find reasons to stop. It’s much harder to find the will to go on when the deck seems stacked against you. Having said that, I do believe it would have taken me much longer to succeed had I not relocated to Frisco 7 years ago. The growing local economy, together with the fitness culture and financial stability of the area all factor into my success as well.

What a truly inspirational story. I’ve been a Massage Reflection client for years, and it’s been fun to watch the business grow and change. Aqua is the real deal, and a shining inspiration to small business owners everwhere. She’s also very kind and extremely good at what she does. Way to go Massage Reflection, and way to go Aqua!
