Meet Avery Donihoo of Honey Grove, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Donihoo.

Hi Avery, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
903 Threads was born out of humble beginnings, big dreams, and a whole lot of late nights. I’m proud to say I’m Honey Grove born and raised, graduating as a Warrior in 2013. After high school, I became a dental assistant, but something never quite clicked. I was searching for a way out—and it turned out to be T-shirts.

What started in 2016 as a small side hustle in the spare room of our house quickly became something more. Back then, it was just vinyl and sublimation work. In 2017, we bought our first embroidery machine and focused mainly on custom hats. Two years later, in 2019, we took a leap into screen printing—and everything changed.

In 2020, we rebranded and officially became *903 Threads*. We were still working out of our one-car garage, where we’d moved the lawn mower out to make room for our growing setup—all while caring for a newborn. My husband worked a 14-hour job outside the house, and we printed shirts at night after the baby was asleep. Shipments were sorted in our living room, and our driveway was often covered in boxes. I stayed home with our little one during the day, and together we made it all work.

In 2021, my husband took the biggest leap yet—leaving his full-time job to join the business full-time. That same year, we introduced direct-to-garment (DTG) printing and phased out vinyl and sublimation for good. In 2022, we invested in an automatic screen-printing press, retiring our manual setup and dramatically increasing what we could create.

2023 brought more milestones: we hired our first employee and opened our first storefront—right on the Honey Grove square. That moment was deeply special to me because I became a third-generation business owner on the square, following in the footsteps of both my grandmother and my mom.

In April 2025, we moved just across the square into a bigger location to better serve our growing customer base. Today, we’re still proudly rooted in Honey Grove, Texas, where our story began. We love being part of this community and are honored to contribute to its legacy—one shirt at a time.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any small business, our journey has been filled with real challenges—especially during the early years. We were raising a newborn at the same time we were trying to grow a business from scratch, working late nights in our garage after long days of parenting. My husband worked a demanding 14-hour job outside the home while I stayed home with our baby, and we often found ourselves exhausted, juggling feedings and shirt orders well into the night. The growing pains of a small business were constant—learning new equipment, making mistakes, facing unexpected costs, and doing everything ourselves, from printing to packing to customer service. There were moments when it felt overwhelming, but we pushed through with determination, grit, and a shared dream. Every challenge taught us something, and those hard seasons are what built the strong foundation we stand on today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
