Meet Becky Banner and Camille McMakin of MpowerMe in Las Colinas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Banner and Camille McMakin.

Becky and Camille, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We come from many years of direct sales, consulting and management experience in the IT industry. In our past, we worked with traditional recruiters to assist in servicing our clients and we were continually frustrated with the results. The problem we experienced is that the recruiters we were working with were trained to search for candidates using keywords and phrases. What we found was that most recruiters couldn’t tell a good resume from a bad one. They didn’t understand the technology or what type of companies from which to recruit. We decided to build a company and create a solid process to find and secure great candidates and we know where to look. Our team is very technical and we understand the business. We only supply candidates that could fit the job and let our clients pick from the best of the best. We believe that it is easier to teach a technical person to recruit than to teach a recruiter technology.

We were fortunate enough to have industry connections which made it easier to get off the ground and establish immediate credibility. We are working with the world’s largest SEO internet company as well as some of the largest social media companies. These type clients have given us a solid base to build and grow our candidate base.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We did find that is sounded easier to build a business from scratch that it actually was. Managing cash flow as a startup is always a challenge. Managing the balance between money going out and money coming in as well as managing how fast to bring on new clients and opportunities against how fast you ramp and train additional team members to deliver the “MpowerMe” way.

We have been able to make through these hurdles and are excited about the future.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about MpowerMe – what should we know?
Our plan is to continue to stay focused on the industry that we have grown up in which is Network Infrastructure. Our background has been many years of selling and deploying Global networks for some of the largest companies in the world. This background sets us apart from traditional staffing companies. Our team can sit down with our clients and totally understand the skill set required for their open positions they and along those same lines we can quickly identify candidates and thoroughly vet their backgrounds so that when we supply them to the client the process is smooth and easy.

What we are most proud of is that 80% of the candidates we have submitted to our clients are hired. The win for our client is that they do not have to waste time interviewing a lot of candidates to find the “one” that they want to bring on to their team. The win for the candidate is obvious however, the feedback we have received from them is that the process if refreshing when they speak to members of our team they don’t have to “dumb down” the technical aspect of their background and that we have their best interest in mind.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
There are multiple characteristics that significantly contributes to our success. Our vision is to transform the negative stigma of working with traditional staffing firms and create a refreshing and engaging experience that always delivers. I think we have done this by building a strong team of recruiters that know where and how to recruit and they can talk technology with the best of the geeks.
