Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Watson.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was raised by my father in the countryside and was a tomboy, busy riding horses & motorcycles, snow skiing, climbing tree’s and making mud-pies. My interest in fashion developed when I was young, especially when my dad took me on shopping trips to the city for new school clothes. Those trips opened my young eyes to fashion as a form of personal expression and creativity.
My career in fashion began as an independent, multi-line apparel representative where I owned a contemporary showroom at the Dallas World Trade Center for ten years – all great opportunities to learn about the fashion industry. The most fulfilling chapter of my career is “STYLE in the city”, where my creativity flourishes and serves others.
Please tell us about your art.
I have a uniquely personal approach to styling people. Step one is always an in-depth wardrobe evaluation, where I spend time getting to know each client’s lifestyle, personality, and goals. This makes the shopping step purposeful but relaxed because I’ve already done the work of getting to know my clients and their individual needs. Sometimes it’s about finding the perfect ensemble for a special event, sometimes a seasonal wardrobe overhaul, but always an opportunity to create a personal style that is genuine and true to each individual.
The final step in my process is integrating new pieces and creating a variety of looks with the help of my client’s existing wardrobe. This is where I feel my most creative, and where clients experience real transformation. I create a digital look-book, showing the different looks that can come from their own closet. Clients are always surprised by what is possible and appreciate how the value of their clothes, shoes, and accessories are maximized.
What I love most about “STYLE in the city” is the evolution of my relationships with clients over the years. Many have become personal friends, and I feel like those friendships have rewarded me for the time and effort I spend getting to know my clients as real people with real lifestyles. Helping people find their own personal expression through fashion is transformational. Guiding clients to look and feel like the best version of themselves is very gratifying work, and helping build their self-confidence is always worthwhile. My work and my life have shown me that we rise by lifting others.
