Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacrecia Steward.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lacrecia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was 13 years old, I used to play in one of my older cousin’s makeup. I remember like it was yesterday. Wet ‘n Wild eyeliner and red lipstick. At 15, I was finally given permission to wear it, which was a huge relief because I was sneaking and wearing it while my grandmother wasn’t around! As I got older, I’d offer to do my friends makeup when we went out or for a special occasion. I even did make up for some of their weddings for free. Anyone that would sit in my chair, I would do their makeup. And they loved it! But I could always see room for improvement.
It wasn’t until I was in my early 30s, my friend who is part owner of Distinctive Designs, convinced me to take it to the next level and go into business. I started working as a part-time freelancer at MAC Cosmetics (while raising two children and working full time at a local manufacturing company) and learned so much from the full-time employees. They really made me step my game up! Even to this day, I still look to others that have been in the game for a while for advice and techniques. But since the days of MAC Cosmetics, I’ve worked with celebrity MUA Keri Gainer, social media Coach Reggie Carter, became a Certified Lash Tech, and recently signed a contract to be the makeup artist for Miss America 2019 Nia Franklin for The I Am Beautiful Movement in August.
Needless to say, I owe all my recent accomplishments to Reggie. He has pushed me on the days that I’m not feeling it, my tired days, my frustrating days (and there have been plenty of those!) even on the days I wanted to give up. When he would call, I know I’d better be able to tell him what I did with my life that day! Not only did he push me, he held me accountable. And for that, I will always be thankful for him. My passion for beauty continues to grow daily and I will always go above and beyond to satisfy my clients.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say the road has been pretty smooth. My biggest struggle has been cleaning multiple brush sets at once or going to restock my makeup and what I need is sold out. Yes, those struggles are real!

At Charmed Makeup & Lash Studio, you can expect to receive luxury service. There’s little to no wait when you arrive. I try to schedule my appointments as to where there’s a 15-20 minute gap in between. And it’s very peaceful. When receiving lash services, most of my clients go to sleep. They usually laugh at my sign that says FREE NAP WITH EVERY LASH SERVICE. But once they lay down, it’s LIGHTS OUT! I blame the soft music, reclining lash bed and ergonomic pillow for that!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memories are of me, my sister and friends exploring the neighborhoods in our small town. Picking plums, riding bikes or playing hopscotch in the middle of the road.
