Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Rodella-Purdy.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cindy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I knew at a very young age that I wanted a creative life. It started with painting lessons from a neighbor then evolved to summer classes at the Art Institute in Pittsburgh, Pa. Next was pre-college at Carnegie Mellon University. I then went off to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a focus on commercial art at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania.
After college, I started working at an agency in Pittsburgh, Pa. and quickly realized I wanted to run my own business. I then co-founded/managed a computer graphics firm in Pittsburgh market. We created media for video productions, live presentations, interactive CD’s, computer-based training, and websites, as technology progressed. After 9 years we sold the company and I eventually moved to Dallas, TX.
Here I met my husband and business partner John Purdy. We have worked in the interactive industry for over 30 years now. Our company Creative Cat Media was formed in 2009.
In the last 8 years, I have also branched out to children’s book writing, illustration, layout, and design. In 2011 I created a cartoon series called BunnyDaze. Its sole purpose is to share love, peace, and joy with the world.
I realized my purpose in life is to share joy and I try to find creative ways to do that through art and design.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, every road has its bumps. We look at obstacles and challenges as ways to learn and grow. We have been lucky to survive both business and health challenges along the way. If you keep finding locked doors it is best to look for a window!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Creative Cat Media story. Tell us more about the business.
We are creative problem solvers providing solutions to match our client’s needs. Creative Cat Media offers interactive and website development, traditional design, business illustration, children’s book writing, illustration, layout and design, traditional photography, and drone photography.
I love design challenges from 30-foot tradeshow booths, brochures, and marketing materials to designing a web presence that will make you stand out in front of the competition.
I think it is a gift to see the world in pictures and I love taking a video script or storybook and laying it out visually to support the vision the writer is trying to convey.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
My father used to tell me that business was 90% luck of being in the right place at the right time. When I started out I always kept that in my mind. You can be the most talented person in the world, but if you don’t put yourself out there no one will ever know. We are lucky today that we can reach people around the world from our computers.
I try not to think of situations as unlucky because every situation that has crossed my path has to lead me to the place I’m at today. I am very happy to be where I am and lucky to have my best friend of 18 years by my side on the journey with me.
I’m lucky I get to do what I love to do.
