Meet Corey “Big Tex” Carswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey “Big Tex” Carswell.

Corey “Big Tex”, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After college graduation, I played in the southwest basketball league and caught on with Mountain dew and source magazine, the job brought me back to Dallas where I started working at Def Jam records and Jive with Vanessa Barryear. Around this time, I also started working for Russell Simmons on side projects starting my career as a brand manager. I moved onto 97.9 The beat where Pearl Jones hired me to help in the marketing department. Russell helped me get an audition on the Apprentice 2 where I was the last one cut before the actual show. I was still working for the source magazine activating events, marketing strategies and etc. The source spun off a southern version called “down magazine” where I was the marketing director. I moved to K104 and was hired as an influencer for Rockport shoes (before there was the term influencer). My mentor Darryl Cobb in hired me to work on the boost mobile “where ya at” program. Teaching me brand management. My team (Candace – Publicist, Pam – assistant, Kim – Assistant) and I began building programs for companies lie fox studios, bud light, Reebok, various liquor companies, Starbucks and MTV.

Today, I am the co-founder of the Sikar Boyz club, the largest Multicultural cigar club in the world, brand manage @djstevenice @qgotjokes and @butleroftime while working as the Brand Activation Manager for Bacardi (Grey Goose, D’usse, Dewar’s and, etc).

I also Host a weekly radio show called “Big BRAND Big YOU” (The greatest branding and Marketing show on the planet), where I give very focused tips and steps on brand building and marketing. The show can be heard in www.bigtexmarketing.com every Tuesday 6 pm central.

All that is fantastic but being a father to Madalyn and Norman and boyfriend to my fantastic lady Benecia brings me more peace than anything.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge as a Brand Manager is helping people understand two things:

1. As a business owner, you will have periods of FANTASTIC growth that is when you spend MORE money on marketing.

2. All companies Hire a Brand Manager, just like you hire an account, lawyers and all those other folks that help your business grow.
