Today we’d like to introduce you to Deb Terrell.
Deb, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We are a farm that started growing Luffa. With the Luffa we made many farm products such as Luffa cat toys, Luffa soap, Luffa back scrubs, Luffa art, Luffa Diffusers and our newest product ChiDamaLuffa. We continue to expand our product line. We now are Beekeepers and have a small herd of LaMancha Dairy Goats. We sell local honey. With our goat milk, we make Chatty’s Gourmet Goat Cheese Dog Treats. They are named for our first Dairy Goat Chatty. We are known as Luv A Luffa but with the addition of honey and the Goat Cheese Dog Treats our farm business has evolved into Nature’s Circle. We offer farm tours.
Has it been a smooth road?
We work/worked corporate positions so while working a full-time professional position and running a farm is a challenge. We grow plants that most people have never heard of so we educate. Due to the North Texas Climate, we have had to adjust our farming practices to be ready for both drought and flooding. We currently grow in Keyholes. Marketing new farm products are challenging but rewarding. Dairy Goat Husbandry was very challenging in the beginning.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are Agriculturists that offer products that no one else in the World is marketing. We are all about Wellness for People and Pets. We educate. We are an Agricultural Experiment Station. With our Luffa we have taken the plant to another level. We are the first to Market a Luffa Diffuser. We currently have a new Luffa product, ChiDamaLuffa, that we are Market testing at Frisco Fresh Market and a few other pop up Markets. ChiDamaLuffa uses Luffa to wrap plants in compared to Kokedama which uses Moss. We also spread the word Grow Luffa for the Bees. Our goat cheese dog treats have many loyal customers.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I journey into the city to share the discoveries of rural life. There is a lot of uneven regulation amongst the different cities of North Texas and even Farmers Markets. Even State Law can make it difficult for small businesses to be successful. City regulations can hamper signage to promote Markets. City regulations can hamper having pets at the Market. Every Market is different and the Vendor has to adjust to each Market. I would also add public transportation. North Texas is making strides in public transportation but still, it is really only in planning stages. I recently became a Councilwoman for my City so that has been an eye-opening experience. Citizens need to get involved in their local government.
