Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennice Johnson of Hyphen – Sports Relocation.
Dennice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m often asked how I got into my career and I always laugh. I laugh, knowing that there wasn’t a specific blueprint that got me to where I am today. I worked in fast-food, retail, education, corporate and finally real estate. I wish I had a prestigious school to give credit to or a mentor that showed me the way but that’s just not the case. I’m fortunate enough to say that Hyphen was born from God putting all of the right people in my life at the right times. Each one encouraged and helped cultivate all of the tools I needed to create this company. It took a village.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve had my fair share of dead-ends, rejections and failures. I failed twice when trying to develop my app for Hyphen and it absolutely crushed me. I felt like my efforts were in vain and I became discouraged. Not to mention that I also failed twice while trying to get my Broker’s license. It seemed like I had wasted a lot of time (4 years) and a lot of money that I didn’t really have. I spent years trying to perfect a system to help others and I kept hitting roadblock after roadblock. Vendors rejected me, teams ignored my calls, and corporate offices asked to unsubscribe from our emails…the process was numbing. The road wasn’t smooth but it was worth it.
Please tell us about Hyphen.
Hyphen is a one-stop-shop premier concierge service for all relocation needs. It doesn’t matter in what regard you’re moving… we got you! We are known for working with the NBA, NFL, and MLB whenever their players are part of a draft, trade, or free agency. The days of surfing the web looking for reputable realtors, moving companies and car shippers are over. We are the Travelocity of moving. We work with the best of the best so we can provide peace of mind in what can often be considered a stressful transition. Moving is dreaded just as much as public speaking or a visit to the dentist and we’ve made efficiency our main focus. We also do residential, commercial, corporate and veteran relocations. I’m most proud of the team that works alongside me to get it all done. Our app is amazing, our business is thriving but I’m most thankful for the people that make it all happen seamlessly. They’re priceless.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had the opportunity to start over, I wouldn’t. I’m not sure that there’s anything I would change. I’m certain it all worked out in it’s divine order so that I could be who I am today. I’ve evolved a great deal professionally and it’s given me the opportunity to share my testimony with others.
