Meet Gabriela Chavez of Lashes by Gaby in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Chavez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2009 I started to get eyelash extensions, and I fell in love with the simplicity of enhancing my look. I became intrigued with the whole process and wanted to learn the process myself. In 2010, I had my first child and I knew I wanted to provide my family with more. In 2012, the State of Texas began to regulate the process of Eyelash Extensions, and I was hesitant because I thought to myself, what if it doesn’t work out. Then I realized that investing in myself, my future, outweighed any fear. So, I went for it and got my license. I started doing lashes part time in 2012 while working full time at a dental office for 10 years. The investment in furthering my education paid off. Then, I had my second child in 2013. Things were moving along well for me however 2014 was eventful. My Grandmother died and my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. That’s when the going got tough. After 10 years in the dental field, I was able to leave my job, focus on family, and take a chance at being an entrepreneur full time. It was bittersweet and scary but exciting. I focused, stayed on track, and continued to further my education more by learning how to shape eyebrows and learning about Microblading. From there it has only got better. I love making others feel extra beautiful! I love to enhance confidence and it may sound silly but, Lashes and Brows alone go a long way! My future plans are to educate others the process as well. I just received my State license to begin teaching in a class setting that will result in the people that I teach attaining their state license. I have been so busy, I had to add to my team. I have 2 other ladies that are a part of Lashes by Gaby. Laurie is a licensed eyelash extension specialist, and Melissa is an esthetician and makeup artist. I will be adding another team member very soon as well. I am aware that there are several Lash Artist all around the Dallas Metroplex, however I feel that my success has been made largely due to my personality and the quality that I put into my work. Most of my clients have come to me by a referral from someone I have worked on. My clients and future students mean everything to me. Without them and my perseverance, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and where I strive to be in the future.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road and it wasn’t always easy. But, I am a firm believer in adversity. For every set back I had, it made me strive harder and made me stronger.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lashes by Gaby – what should we know?
We offer eyelash extensions, eyelash lift and tint, eyebrow shaping, microblading and make-up artistry. I’m known for eyelash extensions since that is what started my journey and is also one of my favorite journeys. I’m proud of the growth-personal and professional. My quality of work and level of professionalism holds me 100% accountable and that sets me apart from others. I have always said quality over quantity.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost my husband who understood the sacrifices that had to be made time, money and personal wise to get where we are today. My team member Laurie has been a tremendous help from keeping me on track and taking on the extra clientele. And most importantly, my clients and the referrals they make on behalf of my work. Everyone I have come across has made me successful in one way or another.
