Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Ijeoma Nwankpa. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Ijeoma is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is one of few in the metro Dallas – Fort Worth area that is an American Board of Physical Therapy Certified Specialist in Women/ Men Pelvic Health (WCS), Certified Lymphedema Physical Therapist (CLT), trained Sexuality Counselor/ Coach and is a Certified Dry Needling Therapist (CIDN).
She is the owner of the Center of Pelvic Excellence Physical Therapy & Wellness LLC. (COPE PT), where she provides inclusive compassionate care, knowledge, and education on pelvic health, sexual health, oncology, and lymphedema to aid in individual optimal recovery.
She participates in several outreach organizations and charities. She is a wife and mother. She enjoys spending quality time with her family, cooking, traveling, reading, and meeting new people.
I’ve always been amazed with the resilience of the human body. I became increasingly interested in pelvic health in my early 20s when I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I underwent surgeries or treatment of this issue. Scar tissue was removed however I was still experiencing pelvic and lower abdominal pain. I was treated by a pelvic health PT and astonished by all the unique self-care skills I was taught. My symptoms improved! From then on, I knew I wanted to become a Pelvic Health PT. I enjoy empowering patients by teaching them about their bodies and ways to recover; whether it is urinary/ bowel issues, pre/postpartum care, cancer rehab, sexual concerns to constipation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
By no means has it been a smooth road. Starting out in the specific specialty of pelvic floor and sexual health rehab I found that there were some pushback from other providers on understanding what exactly the specialty provides. Although it was a challenge, however, I go in with the mindset of “challenge accepted”! I then began to develop in services, presentations, provide articles and educational materials to both patients and clinical colleagues to educate on the importance of pelvic floor rehab, cancer rehab, and sexual health. I found that the more educated one is the better they are at providing care to patients globally and comprehensively.

Center of Pelvic Excellence Physical Therapy & Wellness, LLC – COPE PT was founded by Dr. Ijeoma Nwankpa, a leader in the field and one of the few board-certified specialists in the metro Dallas- Fort Worth area. At COPE PT we specialize in pelvic floor health, sexual health counseling, lymphedema therapy, cancer survivorship, and oncology care.
Our specialized doctors of physical therapy strive to identify the root causes of the problems our patients are experiencing then partner alongside them to develop an individualized and comprehensive treatment program to reach their goals. This is a safe place where we treat all genders and orientations over the age of 18.
Our mission is to provide excellent comprehensive one-on-one evaluations and follow-up sessions, tailored to your needs. We also offer virtual sessions.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was going on family vacations to different countries during summer breaks. One summer I spent it in the Netherlands visiting my uncle who is a pediatrician there. I was about 12 years old then. I was able to shadow him a few days during our trip. I think it was there when I fell in love with medicine and healthcare. I was amazed by how his assistance to children and helps you get them better and improve their overall health. That was a life-changing summer for me.
