Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Tuyet Bui.
Jenny Tuyet, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from New Orleans, LA. That’s where I grew up and where I first fell in love with photography. Growing up, I was always in touch with my creative side. I wanted to become anything related to the arts– an actress, a dancer, a photographer. So I joined all these clubs in high school. One of the clubs I joined was the photography club. And to join, you were required to have a SLR camera. Digital was not a thing yet so these were film SLRs. One of my dad’s friend, who was big on photography, was nice enough to lend me his camera for a few months so I could join. After seeing my eagerness for photography, my dad asked his friend to find a used SLR for me and he got me my first camera. My love for photography just grew from there. I would spend all my time taking pictures of everything and going into the darkroom after school to develop them. I would make my friends and family model for me because I LOVED taking pictures of people. That interest continued throughout my college years at LSU, where I worked for the campus newspaper, The Reveille, as a photographer and later worked for a portrait studio.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has definitely not been an easy one. Just deciding to take that initial step from making your passion into a career is a tough one. That was one of the things I struggled with at the beginning. I enjoyed photography so much that I thought if I made it into a job, I would begin to hate it. And I can honestly say that I was 100% wrong. I have pushed myself creatively in so many ways since then and have become a better photographer in the process.
I think, as a photographer, you also have to keep your skillset sharp. I realized after I began shooting on a regular basis that no matter how many videos you watch on different lighting techniques or how many books you read on posing clients, the best way to learn is to just go out and do it.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started my business, Picture Bouquet Studio in March of 2017. Picture Bouquet Studio is a creative studio based in the Dallas area that specializes in wedding, engagement, and portrait photography. We believe that finding the right photographer can make a world of difference in the end products that you’ll receive. We pride ourselves on getting to know our clients and building a relationship that we hope to last a lifetime. We want to be there to capture every important moment, whether that is your wedding day, engagement party, maternity shoot, or just a fun session to remember this time in your life.
I believe what sets Picture Bouquet Studio apart is the moments that we capture and the experience we offer. I’m very detailed oriented and I love paying attention to those special moments on a wedding day that can easily be missed. I try to capture the day as it would naturally unfold, trying not to alter too much. I want the bride and groom to remember their day exactly how it was. Throughout the wedding planning process, I keep close communication with my bride and groom to keep them in the loop of what comes next, from planning the engagement session to the pre-bridals to the wedding day to what to expect after the big day.
Looking at the future, we are planning to expand our wedding day packages to include hair and makeup service, as well as floral arrangement and decor.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Definitely! Dallas is such a great playground for photographers. We have a variety of city backdrops as well as so many beautiful parks and hidden creeks here. There are also so many different neighborhoods to photograph in and each neighborhood provides its own unique look. Along with the many neighborhoods are the different clientele it provides. I believe there is room for all players, even though it may seem very saturated at times.
