Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim West, Elia Medina and Erin Tolbert.
Jim, Elia and Erin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Hub Streat began based on a place that everyone can come to, a gathering place. We have developed different concepts from food trucks in the beginning, to now hosting private events and catering with our own full kitchen. We began selling bottled beer and having food trucks as our kitchen, and almost three years later, we have blossomed into a gorgeous indoor & outdoor venue with a full kitchen, full craft bar, and some of the best staff around.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road for us, but we are forever thankful for our regulars, and new customers every day! Being in Downtown Plano, the community has made this business more a family, from regulars who live in the area, to those who drive and are here daily. We have hit a few struggles in finding more concepts to expand our horizons and appeal to more people, but as we come upon our third year, we have a few ideas that will blow your mind!
Being a small business with one location is difficult, and although we have had plenty of concepts not work out, but we’ve learned more and more about our community and our guests through those failures. We have struggled before with guests associating us as only an outdoor patio, which is great since our patio is quite amazing, but we also have a fantastic indoor space as well!
In the beginning, we struggled quite a bit with service issues, but as 2019 has progressed and ended, we have fixed most of those issues and are looking forward to showing people the true Hub Streat and how fantastic our staff really is.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hub Streat story. Tell us more about the business.
Hub Streat is a one-establishment venue created with the idea that everyone can come here, it’s a place to gather and enjoy everyone’s company no matter the season. We specialize in having a scratch kitchen, as well as being able to host larger private events, and our large outdoor patio. For us, our patio, food, and staff are what stands out the most, and second to those is that our regulars call us a “hole in the wall bar that really isn’t a hole in the wall.” From their description, we are a great place to hang out and just chill at, as well as make friends with the staff and maybe even meet your next great friend here as well!
What sets us apart from other places is definitely the ambiance, do you want a private dining experience? A sports bar atmosphere? A patio experience? A family-friendly experience? A Game Room Experience? A Lounge Experience? You’re in luck, because we have all of those experiences carefully laid out to bring you the best type of experience, all the time, and with our self-seating policy, it’s always up to our guests to decide which experience they want! For us, we’re proud of how far we’ve come since the beginning and our growth not only as a company but personally in each and every staff member.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The restaurant industry is always changing, since we’re not fully sure what the newest food or drink trends will be, we’re committed to being flexible and keeping with those trends, as we continue to do now! We feel the restaurant industry will continue to develop and find new ways to gain regulars and customers, but in different fashions using new technologies like special delivery sites, restaurant-specific apps, etc.
