Today we’d like to introduce you to John and Tara Patrick.
John and Tara, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took over the family business in 1977, after graduating for Texas A&M. The business was started by my maternal Grandparents in 1916. My parents took ownership around 1945. Tara Patrick, my daughter, is now working as manger and lead designer. We celebrated out 100th anniversary in 2016.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small businesses, things have changed greatly with the advent of the internet and social media. Some changes have been for the good, others have greatly changed the public perception of how our business works.
Other economic changes have created something of a roll coaster ride. However, we have a great customer base that has supported us even during tough times.
Patrick’s Cleburne Floral – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My main job is purchasing product, keeping the books, building upkeep and part time delivery boy. Tara handles the design room and the creative side of things. She also oversees our social media program.
We are best known for our great Customer Service. Everyone that comes in our front door or calls in is considered a family member and is taken care of in like manor.
I am most proud that we have been able to hang on, as a family, for 100 years. We’re now focused on the next 100 years.
In a small community, personal contact is by far the most important thing we can do the set us apart. We are involved in several organizations and very active in the Chamber of Commerce.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When my daughter decided to join the business.
