Meet Krystin Lacy of True Buzz Track Club in Cedar Hill & Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystin Lacy.

Krystin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story started when I was nine years old when I began running track. I was blessed to have experienced a great amount of success as an athlete at Skyline High School on a national and international level. I received a track and field scholarship and graduated from UCLA in 2009. The opportunities that I received helped build and mold me into the person I am today. My passion for track and field was ignited when I was a little girl and has fueled my drive and my desire to start my track team one day.

In the fall of 2017, I was approached by one of the coaches and board members of the True Buzz Organization which at the time was just a 7v7 football organization. He asked me if I wanted to start a track program within the Organization and I jumped at the opportunity.

Has it been a smooth road?
No! It has not been a smooth road. Yes! There have been some struggles along the way. I’ve learned that anyone who has experienced success knows that there are challenges that come with that territory. I believe that you do not get to experience glory without having to overcome and persevere through obstacles and setbacks because those are the things that reveal and sharpen your character and prepare you for that success.

Some of the challenges that I faced started from day one, building a coaching staff that had the same values, dedication, and morals that aligned with our organization’s, getting athletes without recruiting from other teams, and the financial obligations that come with starting and running a business.

Once we overcame that the next major challenges I faced were managing all the moving pieces: staying knowledgeable and sharp as a coach, tackling administrative duties, budgeting finances, being a strong mentor to the athletes, getting on one accord with parents, not to mention three times a week I was driving over an hour during rush hour traffic to make it to practice, while maintaining a training location in Frisco. It was a struggle because I had to navigate all of those channels while having a full-time job and maintaining my social life. I continue to overcome those obstacles with prayer, a strong support system from my family, amazing coaches and parents, and phenomenal athletes.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
True Buzz Track Club is a Non-Profit Youth Sports Organization that is AAU & USATF certified. We provide speed and conditioning training for boys and girls ages 6-18. We provide opportunities for youth athletes to compete in national meets with emphasis on competitions like the Hershey Junior Olympics and the AAU Junior Olympics. We have a professional coaching staff that consists of my dad who was a former NFL football player, and our jumps and hurdles coach was a 5x National Champion and All American at Baylor University. I am the Head Coach and I specialize in the sprint & distance events our team has athletes competing in sprinting, distance, jumping, hurdling, and relay events.

I am known for my spicy personality and passion for the sport. I pay close attention to detail which gives me the ability to recognize the smallest glitch in running mechanics and correct it. I am diligent about hard work, dedication, and giving the effort that it takes not just to be great but to show gratitude and appreciation for the opportunities we have. As an owner of a business, I am known for being one of very few female head coaches in the sports industry. Men have dominated the sports coaching industry and the belief has been that women help with administrative duties. So being in the forefront and part of the strategic decisions that the team makes during practice and in competitions has been something that I have worked hard for and pushed for while leading this team without fear or reservations.

What I am most proud of as a company is helping young black boys and girls in my community see positive role models that look like them, helping them find a positive outlet to express themselves, and give them opportunities to be acknowledged and recognized on national platforms. What sets me apart is I don’t focus on making athletes faster or stronger. We are focused on instilling values of hard work, gratitude, dedication, and perseverance.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about our city is that Dallas has a lot to offer any and everyone. There are opportunities to experience and explore various cultures and industries through entertainment, fashion, sports, business, fine arts, culinary, philanthropic work, and politics. What I like least about Dallas is with it being such a big city there is a lot of division between certain parts of towns, and I’m sure this is true with any big city, but the traffic is no fun either!
