Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Roosevelt and the LR Art House.
Laura please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I specialize in abstract mixed media painting. As an artist, I am known for my layering techniques, which leads the observer deeper into the piece and into one’s subconscious. For me, the combination of luminous color and the buildup of textures is reflective of the complexity of our human condition. I use my heart and soul to create all my work.
Texture is very important to me, as each layer means something. My work is reflective of nature and architecture, this all creates something abstract and beautiful.
I am a process oriented painter. I let the paint and materials do what they truly are supposed to do. I balance my paintings with sleek metal sculptures. Simple, metal shapes are created in a multitude of abstract presentations that often have her touch of my beloved textures.
I graduated from Denison University with degrees in Studio Art and Art History, I hold a Master’s degree from NYU. My work can be found in private collections from coast to coast in the United States, in the Bahamas, London and St. Barths.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My life has been a smooth road, full of adventure and joy. My obstacle has been time, I finally now have all the necessary time to devote to my love of creating art.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LR Art House story. Tell us more about the business.
I launched and opened the LR Art House in January 2018. The LR Art House is my personal gallery featuring my extensive collection of paintings and sculpture. The LR Art House is in a chic uptown Dallas townhouse; is on view by appointment, via special events, and can be also seen at the EC Dicken showroom in the design district.
My art career resulted in my artwork being collected from coast to coast, in London, The Bahamas and St Barth’s – I chose to move from New England back to her hometown of Dallas, where much of my family resides.
It’s so good to be back in Texas. I find so much inspiration here! The LR Art House was born out of this. I’m very excited to have the LR Art House and in the EC Dicken showroom where my work is in a setting that resembles the way it is typically installed. It’s always fun to view art in a gallery space, but that’s not usually how art is permanently hung. I hope that my clients are equally inspired by my new spaces and what it represents in the art world.
