Meet Meghan Saunders

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Saunders.

Meghan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I feel like I have lived multiple lives at this point. I graduated from The University of Oklahoma thinking I wanted to work in Advertising or Marketing. Fast forward, six or seven years of working in Corporate America I realized working in an office was not for me, I couldn’t sit in a desk in front of a computer for the rest of my life. So after ending a bad relationship and quitting my job, I decided to go back to school to become a nurse. You can bet my parents loved hearing that.

While in school I got a job part-time at a local spin studio that was about to open a new location. You could say my life did a 180 pretty quickly; I found some amazing lifelong friends and was happy again. I was with the said company for about two to three years and moved up through the ranks of front desk staff to the key holders to eventually Manager at one of their Dallas locations. You can learn a lot about what works and what doesn’t when you work on all sides. I learned a lot about operating a business while I was there but mostly I learned what not to do. How not to treat your employees and how important communication is; both with your employees and with your clients.

After a regime change at the top, I knew it was time to find a new opportunity. I have never been one to not say what I think and this company only wanted people to go with the flow. The saying, “things happen for a reason” has never rung truer.

Enter Rush Cycle and this amazing opportunity to build something from the ground up in North Dallas. The franchise owners are absolutely amazing; they actually want to hear my ideas and care what I think. I have an amazing lead instructor that has worked for Rush Cycle before and can help our new instructors grow. Not to mention how helpful the corporate team out of California is. We are all here to help each other and make this a successful business. And so here we are with Frisco almost open for a month and our next location in our sights.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think my biggest struggle was figuring out what I wanted to do with my life. I am so lucky to have a supportive family that lives in Dallas and parents that have supported my many career changes. Without their support, I would probably still be in a cubical behind a computer. I feel so lucky to have figured out what makes me happy, what I am actually good at. Something to call a career.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Rush Cycle – Frisco story. Tell us more about the business.
Since opening the first location in La Jolla in 2011, Rush Cycle has rapidly grown into a popular fitness brand, finally expanding to North Texas. At Rush, we strive to provide the local community with an efficient cardio workout while maintaining a premium level of quality, intimacy and convenience. Dimmed lights, fun music and the best instructor lead classes provide an adrenaline-packed experience that delivers results for the body and mind. Our classes are for all ages, all athletic types. We want our riders to feel at home when they walk into the studio. It is an honor to be apart of something that has been around multiple years and been so successful nationwide.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think luck and networking are something everyone hopes to have. These days who you know is as important as your experience.

Do I feel lucky?
Damn straight. Have I hard hardships during my career path? For sure! But I know that every bad experience is a learning experience. I have learned from my mistakes, learned from working for a company with a culture problem, learned how not to run a business.
I am thankful for every experience good or bad.
