Meet Mrs. Janet Hall of Sassie’s Sisterhood Social Club in Southeast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mrs. Janet Hall.

Founder & President Janet Hall is the real deal. The 48-year-old Founder was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and relocated to Texas in 1994. After teaching school for 10 years and receiving Who’s Who among America’s Top Teachers, she decided she needed a change. God gave me a vision to bring women together of all colors and give them a platform to be able to bond, share, shop, travel, service the community and just enjoy life in a drama-free setting. So, with that vision in mind and heart on August 1st, 2014, Sassie’s Sisterhood Social Club was born. Starting out it was clear that I was made for this. I was President in an organization in high school called Ebony Spirit with Pride so naturally, as all Leo’s know, I was born a leader. This was a piece of cake. So, I thought. Society has a stigma on women that says we can’t work together which is something I made my main focus to fix. I will not allow that to be true about women. All women should be able to work together towards the same goals and it can be done an is being done in this organization. In addition, before you join you must vow to be drama free. Drama is the key factor in why women can’t be productive. They allow other distractions to deter them from the big picture and veer off into other areas instead of keeping the task at hand. So, when we meet up, it’s all about my sister time. In this journey, people come and people go but we have 9 Charter members that are still with us and they have made it to this years 5 year Anniversary. To date, we have 47 active members, 8 out of town members (Florida, Houston, Tyler, Los Angeles, and Inglewood) and we many more to welcome aboard. People sometimes confuse us with sororities or the kind of social clubs affiliated with the motorcycle clubs but we are connected with neither. We are an amazing group of ladies that are striving for Unity in Sisterhood. One of our annual events that we do that gets all the feelings going is when we deliver purse packs to homeless women. That is one thing we are very proud of. So, we come together and collect gently used purses and we go out and buy necessities and toiletries to put inside the purses. Because just because you’re homeless, you don’t stop being a lady. We make sure our homeless sisters have what they need as well. We walk through the streets of downtown Dallas and let the shop for free and pick which purse of goodies they want. They get so much joy from it and we do as well, just being servants.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been more peaks than valleys on this journey but I wouldn’t change a thing. My path is my path and I will take it and embrace it. You have people that don’t wanna commit fully they are there long enough to do one or two events and take a picture, etc., you have those that don’t wanna pay their dues, those that never come to meetings or events but wanna continue to be a member. We don’t need just a name on the roll. We want active members that can get out what we put into the organization and I know I am pouring all of my love and commitment in and desire to receive the same from my sisters. I let them know this is a freewill company if you no longer desire to be a member just leave gracefully. No hard feelings, no love lost.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
Sassie’s Sisterhood Social Club is an organization for women ages 21 and older who might be sitting at home thinking I wish I had someone I go out with maybe to shop, eat, catch a movie or whatever and just socialize and enjoy life.

We travel, work with Habitat for Humanity, volunteer at the North Texas Food Bank, keep Texas clean with Adopt A Highway & TxDot, donate to the homeless women and men Downtown Dallas and whatever we can get busy doing we will do.

We are known for being drama free! And that is what I’m most proud of knowing everyone might not always agree but we can disagree and move forward. We wear that “S” on our chest and it means something to us. Our superpower is Sisterhood and that is something special. We don’t play about our sisters. What sets us apart is the fact that we don’t have any rituals, pledges or hoops to jump through a just vow to be drama free.

What were you like growing up?
I was pretty the much the same as I am now. I have always been an outgoing, fun, loving person who loves people. I speak to everyone. I mean will sit and talk to you like we have known each other for years and I don’t even know your name. That’s how it should be. No matter what color, religion or whatever, we all bleed red. I treat people the way I want them to treat me. With genuine love and compassion.
