Meet Nate Price of Grit N Grind Fitness in Coppell and Denton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Price.

Nate, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I played football at Hebron High School and had an opportunity to play in college. I ended up having lower lumber back surgery my senior year and all hopes of playing college ball went away. The following year I attended UNT, where I ended up enjoying it way too much, thus gaining my ‘freshman 15’, then another 30, 40, and 50lbs from my high school weight. I had a very sedentary job in the banking industry so that plus the bad habits led to an unhealthy lifestyle.

After looking at myself in a Halloween picture with my girlfriend (now my wife and mother of our son Nate, Jr.) I realized that I had to make a change. I started working my way back down in weight with a goal to be around my high school weight. People noticed the changes and asked if I could help them. Eventually, I got the idea to become a certified trainer through NASM and train people as a side gig. After leaving the banking branches to do business banking, I got the idea from my clients to jump from banking and do what I was passionate about. My business was already operational, so I went full-speed into helping others reach their fitness goals.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been smooth travels by any means. One thing most trainers do is go to work for a big box gym. That way, they learn the business side of it and build up a clientele while getting more experience. I took a different route and met a lot of knowledgeable people along the way. One of which is my mentor to this day and has helped me jumpstart my career in the fitness industry by a long shot. The hardest thing starting out was finding more clients, but I made it happen. Another struggle is finding time for yourself when you put so much into others, but it is very rewarding to have that struggle. Also, not being associated with a big box gym initially or a name brand gym was tough because you have to get creative on where you can train people. Now, that’s not so much of an issue.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Grit N Grind Fitness – what should we know?
Grit N Grind Fitness was created to help any and everyone reach their fitness goals through personalized training programs. I train clients one-on-one, in partners or small groups, and even I do boot camps. I primarily deal with clients who want to lose body fat and feel better in their skin, but I do not limit myself to just that. I also help to increase strength, mobility, flexibility and boost confidence through my targeted programs. The thing that makes me most proud of my company is that it is literally grassroots. I built this, and I take pride in the fact that I am providing a service that people need in today’s society. Most people say what sets them apart is ‘them’, but I truly believe that I am different from others. I like to have fun but educate and grow with my clients while showing them an authentic ME.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife, Danielle, saw how down I was working in corporate America, and urged me to jump ship and do what I love. She rears me in the right direction and always keeps my priorities straight. She also is a super marketing brain that helped a lot. My parents, Diana and Sylvester, always believed in me and kept it 100 through this whole process.

My brother, Sterling, always supportive and willing to take photos for my business while also serving as a marketing mind as well. I have a couple of mentors. One of which I call my big bro, and the other I call the “OG.”

Big Bro: Watt Lawton of WBWFit
OG: Ade’ Hazley of V12 Yoga, Workplace Fitco, and Rockstar Fitcamps

Watt helped me to get accustomed to training and understand that it can be cyclical if you don’t approach it correctly. Focus on helping others and everything else falls into place. He’s been a great friend that has walked me through those stressful times of not knowing what is next.

Ade’ helped me to understand how to effectively reach people as a trainer and demonstrates so much knowledge about what we do. He took me under his wing after I just reached out to him the day I was leaving my job, and all I wanted was basic info on what I should do next. From then on, he continues to open my mind to all the great things I can do. My clients, without them, what would I be? Trainers are only trainers if they have people to train. I appreciate each and every one of them (past and present and future) as they all help me grow and effectuate other lives.
