Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Schad.
Patricia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was gifted my first film camera on my 9th birthday. It was one of those Walgreens cameras, where every time you developed a roll, you received a free roll of film in return. I’m sure I broke my parent’s wallets by wanting a roll developed every week. I have a box tucked away in my closet full of pictures I took of friends, pets, vacations and my childhood backyard. My Dad was actually a photographer at a small studio around my age, I’m pretty sure he passed down his love of photography to me. My Mom and Dad were always taking pictures of my Brother and I. I still look back at those pictures cherishing memories I don’t quite remember. Those pictures have made me realize the importance of capturing moments that one day might be forgotten.
My significant other has been my main motivational source through this journey, he has pushed me to gravitate towards the things that I love. I’ve tried other outlets like yoga and guitar, I enjoy them but I didn’t feel like I wanted to start a career in either one. As soon as I started taking pictures again I immediately knew I had a passion for it and wanted to continue my path towards photography. He has granted me the blessing to be a Stay-at-Home mom for a little over a year now, which not only has given me a chance to see the milestones of my youngest child but also to fulfill my dreams by starting a business I’m passionate about.
Has it been a smooth road?
Surprisingly it has been pretty smooth so far. I’ve hit a couple of patches where I feel like I’m just not where I want to be in this line of work, but I have been blessed to have an amazing group of people who support me and keep me motivated.
I’ve also had an amazing mentor (Melanie Baldi, owner of Melanie Baldi Photography) who has helped me with all of my endless questions about the start-up of a photography business. There has been a lot more to learn than I thought, but it’s been a fun learning process along the way.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am based out of Arlington, TX but I am open to traveling within the DFW area. I have been taking pictures for a little over two years now but decided to take the next step by opening Patricia Schad Photography over the summer of 2019.
I love taking pictures of families, newborns, maternity, and events. I specialize in outdoor photography, all-natural lighting is my favorite. I am always open to trying just about any type of photography, I’m shooting my first wedding at the end of September. I take pride in making people feel good about themselves, and at ease all while having fun during my shoots.
As a mother of two, I know how important it is to remember every little detail of their lives, which is why I take my time capturing all of the little details. I truly enjoy getting to see each unique smile through my lens, knowing I’m capturing memories that they will keep for a lifetime.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Throughout the years I have seen the digital photography industry soar. Going from taking our families to Sears to take studio pictures in front of a backdrop and receiving prints, to taking more nature filled photographs outdoors and receiving digital files. I would like to see the industry move back towards prints, I don’t like the fact we rely on the internet to store our precious pictures. Let’s make and capture memories we want to hang on our walls!

She does amazing work. She did my daughters senior pictures and we were so excited to see what they looked like. They are beyond amazing. Thank you very much for your time and dedication Patricia.
